This November, Ozone House, a homeless shelter helping youth ages 10 to 24, will be coming to Ypsilanti. This organization will help the homeless community in Washtenaw County have access to shelter and many other resources.

 Four candidates interviewed to fill the vacant 3rd Ward city council seat on Tuesday, May 28 at City Hall. They spoke before city council members and a room of concerned citizens. 



Peninsular Park Dam

During the May 7 Ypsilanti City Council meeting, council members voted to remove the Peninsular Dam. $500,000 was approved for the project with a 5-1 vote.

EMU Professor performs during Glyph Opening Reception at the Riverside Arts Center

Carla Harryman, professor of literature at EMU, performed her original spoken piece Hannah Cut In at the opening reception for Glyph: The Diversity, Complexity, and Aesthetics of Language art exhibit at the Riverside Arts Center. Professor Harryman utilized an ensemble of performance artists and typewriters to create this symphony of sounds. Inspired by her experiences as a child and the political influences of Hannah Arendt, Hannah Cut In waltzes the lines connecting language and music.

Ypsilanti loses former mayor

Pete Murdock, Ypsilanti’s former mayor and longest serving city council member, died on May 4 at age 76. He was involved in the Ypsilanti community for more than 25 years.

 Dozens of farmworkers, students, allies and community leaders gathered to rally outside of Wendy’s on Carpenter Street Saturday, March 9.  





Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions. 

Be sure to tune in weekly to stay up to date on all the Eastern Michigan and Ypsilanti amusement!
