Wrestling dominates Cleveland State in win

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling squad traveled to Cleveland, Ohio on Friday to face-off against Cleveland State University (4-2, 0-0 EWL). The Eagles returned back to Ypsilanti with a dominant 32-3 victory. The Eagles (3-1) started the dual, winning the first 8 matches of the day to help build a 29-0 lead.

Eagles finish 2-1 at EMU Open

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team kicked off its season on Saturday, beating both Clarion University and Bloomsburg University but Fell to the boilermakers of Purdue University at the Eastern Michigan University Open.

EMU grapplers drop final duel to CMU

On senior night, Feb. 20, at the EMU Convocation Center Friday night, Eastern Michigan University’s wrestling team dropped their final dual meet of the year by a score of 24-12 to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan University. For Eagles Jake Byers, Mike Curby and brothers Brandon and Collin Zeerip, this would be the final time they would be able to come out to be introduced as Eagles in front of their home crowd.

EMU Wrestling: Eagles Drop a Tough One Against Bobcats

Eastern Michigan University’s wrestling team found itself behind, early, against the Ohio Bobcats and was unable to come back in a 20-15 loss Sunday at the EMU Convocation Center. Eastern began the afternoon with Devan Murray taking on the Bobcats, Harrison Hightower, in the 165 lb.

Come back is for naught for EMU wrestlers, lose to Cleveland State 20-15

The Eagles stormed back after going down 3-14 early on in the dual meet against Cleveland State to take a 15-14 lead, but ultimately Cleveland State proved too much to handle and handed the Eagles a 20-15 loss Thursday night at the Convocation Center. Eastern got off to a good start when Anthony Abro won the first match for the team going up against Nick Corba in the 197 lb.

EMU Wrestling Splits at Dual Meet in Pittsburgh

The Eastern Michigan Eagles wrestling team experienced both the sweet taste of victory and the bitter taste of defeat Sunday, Jan. 11 as they defeated the Duke Blue Devils and dropped their match against the N.C. State Wolfpack at the Pitt Duals.

EMU wrestlers pick up first win on Pennsylvania road trip

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team improved its record to 6-3 Saturday, defeating Clarion University 34-7 in Clarion, PA. Vince Pizzuto, 135#’s; Micahel Shaw, 141#’s, and Devn Marry, 165 #’s; all secured pins for the Eagles in road win. EMU will be taking the mat again Sunday, Jan.

EMU wrestling team goes 2-1 at the Windy City Duels

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team improved to 5-2 Saturday, picking up two wins at the Windy City Duals in Evanston, Illinois. The Eagles went 2-1 on the day, losing to Princeton 26-11 in their opening match and then besting both Cal Poly, 30-7, and Drexel, 22-19. Shayne Wireman-125# and Brandon Zeerip-157#, both went undefeated on the day. Eastern’s next match will be Dec.

David Bolyard named EMU Head Wrestling Coach

On Wednesday, June 25, Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Heather Lyke announced that seven-year EMU Associate Head Wrestling Coach David Bolyard will take over as Head Coach of the EMU wrestling program effective immediately. The search for a new coach began in late May following the resignation of long time head coach Derek DelPorto.

Eastern Michigan wrestling coach resigns

On May 20th Eastern Michigan University announced that Derek DelPorto resigned from the position of head coach of the men’s wrestling team. DelPorto served as the head coach of the squad for eight seasons.


	Eastern Michigan University’s 32 student-athletes who earned 4.0 GPA’s this past fall, some of whom are pictured above, prove that brains and brawn can go together well.

It is no easy task to balance playing sports and academics, but 32 Eastern Michigan University student-athletes achieved both and then some by finishing the Fall 2013 semester with a 4.0 grade point average.

EMU wrestling beats Old Dominion University

With a takedown from Khodor Hoballah, the Eastern Michigan University wrestling team earned its sixth win of the season last Friday against Old Dominion University, 21-19.
