EMU men’s track earns eight first place finishes in the Can Am Classic

The Eastern Michigan men’s track and field team competed in the Cam Am Classic on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Bowen Fieldhouse in Ypsilanti. The Eagles competed in 17 events and had a first place finisher in eight of those. EMU was led by Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed, who won the long jump and triple jump events.

EMU gymnastics loses its home opener

The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team lost its home opener against Central Michigan University on Sunday, Jan. 19. The match started on vault and the Eagles had the advantage in scoring after the first rotation but they were unable to hold on for the victory.

EMU women’s tennis prepares for season ahead

The Eastern Michigan’s women’s tennis team is set to begin their 2020 schedule as they face Michigan State on the road on Thursday, Jan. 23. The Eagles were selected to finish in eighth place according to the MAC preseason poll. Buffalo, who totaled 77 points, was selected to win the conference. Miami (OH) was picked to finish in second place.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles women’s track team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University for the Doug Hansen Open on Friday, Jan. 17. The Eagles competed in 11 events, including the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 800-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, the one-mile run and much more.

EMU looks to snap losing streak against Miami (OH)

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (10-9, 0-6) will be finishing up their road trip against the Miami RedHawks (8-11, 1-5).  The Eagles are on a six-game losing streak, dropping their game against the Bowling Green Falcons, 62-59, on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The RedHawks on the other hand, have won only one game in their last six games.

The Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team hosted the Central Michigan Chippewas on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Convocation Center for the EMU Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closing Celebration. CMU closed out the 89-82 win with free throws and remained undefeated against the MAC.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (10-9, 0-6) men’s basketball team played against the Bowling Green Falcons (14-5, 5-1) on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and lost their sixth straight game 62-59. The Eagles have dropped all of their conference games so far this season, after starting 10-3.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (10-8, 0-5) men’s basketball team fell to the Ohio Bobcats (10-8, 2-3) on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Convocation Center. The Eagles were up 28-21 at halftime but lost 60-58. Noah Morgan had 23 points for EMU, while senior forward Ty Groce added 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.

EMU women's basketball wins at home against Miami (OH)

Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball defeated Miami (Ohio) University in a blowout, Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Convocation Center. The win gives the Eagles its third MAC victory and Eastern Michigan now has a 3-1 MAC record. A successful first quarter for the Eagles was the start of the blowout. EMU scored 29 points in the first quarter.

Eagles men's basketball plummet to 0-4 in MAC with loss against Ball State

The Eastern Michigan Eagles took on Ball State on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Ball State is the fourth team in a row that Eastern Michigan has lost to who currently sit with a 0-4 conference record. Head coach Rob Murphy reacted to the loss: “Tonight, when Ball State was open, they knocked it down. When we had opportunities, we didn’t. That’s the bottom line.”

The Eastern Michigan women’s gymnastics team started the season 1-0 with a victory on the road versus Bowling Green State University on Saturday, Jan. 11. The final score was 194.875-193.325 in favor of the Eagles, who were led by Jada Rondeau, Emili Dobronics, Caitlin Satler, Kara Roberts and others.

Eagles compete in Wolverine Invitational

The Eastern Michigan women’s track team continued their indoor season nearby at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. This is known as the Wolverine Invitational where 10 different schools participated including the Eagles. To start off the field events Sophomore Nina Ward took fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.54 meters.

EMU women's basketball team defeated by Ball State

The Eastern Michigan Eagles women's basketball team went into Muncie, Ind. looking for their first 3-0 start against the MAC since the 2006-2007 season. It didn't go as planned as EMU lost 59-54 to the Cardinals at Worthen Arena on Saturday. Areanna Combs had 18 points for the Eagles (7-7, 2-1 MAC) with a season-high in rebounds at 11.

Pittsburgh defeats EMU in Quick Lane Bowl

The Pittsburgh Panthers (8-5, 4-4) have defeated the Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-7, 3-5) in the 2019 Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit. The final score was 34-30 as Pittsburgh was led by junior quarterback Kenny Pickett, who threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns. Eastern Michigan is now 1-4 all-time in bowl games.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-6, 3-5) will face the Pittsburgh Panthers (7-5, 4-4) in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit. Both teams are just 2-3 in their last five outings and still have a bad taste in their mouths following losses in the regular season finale. EMU lost to Kent State, while Pittsburgh fell to Boston College.

The Eastern Michigan (9-2) men’s basketball team travelled to the Breslin Center to face the No. 15 Michigan State Spartans (9-3) on Saturday, Dec. 21. The Eagles now have a 9-2 record, tied with Kent State at the top of the MAC. The Spartans dominated the game from the tip-off, outscoring the Eagles 41-20 in the first half.
