EMU women’s soccer beats Illinois, Toledo in MAC play

The women’s soccer team at Eastern Michigan University started Mid-American Conference play this past weekend with two big victories on the road. EMU defeated Northern Illinois 1-0 at home in Dekalb, Ill. Sept. 21. Two days later they defeated Toledo, the defending MAC Champions, 3-0.

The Detroit Tigers are still in the playoff hunt. Two weeks ago, it appeared as if they had all but given up on the playoffs, but in the last seven days, it looks like an entirely different team has taken over.

Golf performs at U of M

Eastern Michigan University junior and co-captain, Alyssa Kwon, withstood a very competitive field at the par 71, 6, 112 yard Wolverine Invitational at the U-M Golf Course this past weekend. Kwon, along with Alicia Weber from Michigan and Meghan MacLaren from Florida International, shot an overall score of 227 to finish in a tie for first place in the individual part of the tournament.

Skill, chemistry key to soccer playoff hopes

The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team defeated their first Mid-American Conference opponent of the season Friday when they beat Northern Illinois University 1-0 on a penalty kick in the sixty-fourth minute. The Eagles finished last season with an overall record of 3-13-2.

Eastern Michigan University senior Terefe Ejigu definitely made his mark Friday at the University of Toledo’s Bubble Buster Invitational as he earned his second consecutive first-place finish for the Eagle’s cross country team.

Volleyball team defeats Northern Illinois

The Eastern Michigan women’s volleyball team broke their five-match losing streak Sept. 22, when they defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-19). Senior outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello led the way with 14 kills and 11 digs.

10. New Orleans Hornets Offseason moves – Drafting rookies Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers, trading Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor and signing Ryan Anderson and Robin Lopez. The Hornets went through an abysmal season after trading Chris Paul in the 2011 offseason.
