Women’s rowing loses to 2 teams in New York

The Eastern Michigan University women’s rowing team fell short in New York when it took on the University of New York at Buffalo Bulls and the Boston University Terriers Saturday for the Harvey Cup on Tonawanda Creek.

Gymnast 22nd in NCAA performance

Eastern Michigan University’s freshman gymnast Khadijah Hudson finished out the Eagles’ season with a NCAA Regional Championship performance Saturday at the University of Alabama.

Designated hitter debacle

April 6, 1973 was opening day of Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox hosted the New York Yankees at Fenway Park; this was the first game designated hitters were used in the starting lineups for American League teams.

Golf places 4th

The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team traveled to Williamsburg, Va. for the C&F Bank Intercollegiate tournament from March 24-26. Due to snow, play was cancelled for both the 24th and 25th. They managed to get a full round in on the 26th, which counted for the tournament’s final scoring.

Women’s golf finishes 8th in tournament

The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team traveled south to Austin, Texas, for the Challenge at Onion Creek Tournament April 1-2. The team finished in eighth place overall in the tournament with a three round team score of 900.

Women’s swim perfect in MAC

Through hard work and determination, the Eastern Michigan University women’s swim and dive team accomplished its first ever undefeated season in dual meets.

Linn happy with men’s swim, dive team season

The continuation of a Mid-American Conference winning streak and a come-from-behind finish at the MAC championships highlighted the 2012-13 season for the Eastern Michigan University men’s swim and dive team.

Mentor2Youth holds fundraiser

The organization Mentor2Youth held a basketball fundraiser Saturday afternoon at the Eastern Michigan University Rec/IM to raise money for local elementary and middle school students, for whom the organization provides tutoring and mentoring opportunities.

First loss on new courts

The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team premiered its new home courts at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex March 30.



	EMU’s women’s team has 16 players but said they are always looking for more. They hope to see more fans Sunday at the home game.

Lacrosse grows strong

Most people know about the popular sports, such as football and basketball, but how many students know about lacrosse?



	EMU senior Jacob Hanson finished the 200-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 39.87 seconds.

Swimmer 4th in backstroke

As the only representative from the Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming team, senior Jacob Hanson placed the highest among mid-major swimmers in the 200-yard backstroke final at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., this past weekend.



	“For my capstone communication class [that] I need to graduate, I need to work with a nonprofit organization,” senior center Matt Balkema said. “I chose Mentor2Youth. They work with local kids with troubled backgrounds. I figured I love being around kids, I love being a role model type so I figured why not.”

Basketball game to raise charity money

While the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball season is over and senior center Matt Balkema’s time with the team is done, he is still giving back off the court.
