The Eastern Michigan Board of Regents will vote on whether to continue the university's role in the Education Achievement Authority, a partnership with Detroit Public Schools, at the Board of Regents meeting, Dec.

EMU receives $361K grant to support low-income Ypsilanti families

The Kresge Foundation has given Eastern Michigan University a $361,000 grant to expand programs for low-income families living in Ypsilanti housing projects. The grant will support the Ypsilanti Family Empowerment Program, a community effort which began in 2012 to help families living in the award winning Hamilton Crossing development on Ypsilanti’s south side.

Black Student Demands presented at conference

A list of demands by the African American community was given to Eastern Michigan University at the Institutional Racism in Higher Education conference at 2 p.m., Thursday, in McKenny. Darius Simpson stood in front of a room full of people and encouraged the downfall of institutional racism.

Dana Dolinoy talks DNA and destiny

Dr. Dana Dolinoy, associate professor of nutrition and environmental health from the University of Michigan, presented her lecture Your Epigenome: DNA is not Necessarily Your Destiny on Thursday at the Student Center. The lecture is a part of EMU’s annual George Liepa Sigma Xi speaker series which is inspired by former EMU professor of nutrition, George Liepa.


About 80 students attended the annual Thanksgiving dinner.

The Office for International Students holds annual Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving Break is upon us, so Friday the Office for International Students and Scholars hosted the annual International Thanksgiving dinner Friday night in the Student Center. About 80 international and American students had a traditional Thanksgiving meal. "It's just a safe place for the international students to experience American culture, to learn the traditions of Thanksgiving and some of the things we have now like football, Black Friday shopping, the Macy's parade,” Emily Boerman, an international student advisor who helped set this up, said.
