Campus Life hosted a Snack & Study session before the week of fianls from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Tuesday. “I came to tonight’s event to actually study, be around a lot of people who are doing the same thing as me and whose focus are their studies, just like me,” Destani Goodman, freshman elementary education major said.

Thursday, Dec. 10 The Muslim Student Association will host Faces of Hope at 5 p.m., Thursday, in the Student Center, Room 310A.

The Board of Regents increases apartment and residence hall rates and cost of meal plans

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved an overall increase of 4 percent to university residence halls and apartments and a 1.5 percent increase to meals plans for the 2016-17 academic year at the Board's regular meeting Tuesday in Welch Hall. A cost of a residence hall double room will range from $4,108 to $5,296, depending on the facility.The platinum 19-meals-a-week plan will cost $4,983. More than 3,800 students live on campus, up from 3,240 in 2010.

Monday, Dec. 7 Graduating EMU students will be able to by their commencement regalia at the Student Center Bookstore Grand Fair starting at 10 a.m., all day Monday and Tuesday.

EMU students volunteer at Meals on Wheels

The Ypsilanti branch of Meals on Wheels, 1110 W Cross St, was busy with volunteers on Saturday. This was a community outreach program that included a Holiday Home Tour in the morning and Taste of Ypsi in the evening.

MSA fundraising for Relay for Life at Faces of Hope

Eastern Michigan University’s Muslim Student Association will be holding Faces of Hope to raise money for Relay for life from 5-8:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Student Center Room 310A. The event will feature guest speakers, personal cancer survivor stories and an opportunity for attendees to share stories.

The Board of Regents to vote on EAA agreement

The Eastern Michigan Board of Regents will vote on whether to continue the university's role in the Education Achievement Authority, a partnership with Detroit Public Schools, at the Board of Regents meeting, Dec.

Students learn about faith at Interfaith Dinner

The Muslim Student Association, Hillel and Unite EMU hosted an Interfaith Dinner Monday evening in McKenny Hall. Ahnas Alzahabi, president and founder of Eastern Michigan University’s chapter of Students Organize for Syria, hosted the event.


Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions.
