College students across the country are finding it increasingly difficult to attend school. According to a study from the Wisconsin Hope Lab, 20 percent of all community college students face hunger and 13 percent are homeless.

Thursday, April 21, 2016. An EMU student realized that the graduation tickets they bought from an unidentified person in the Student Center were fake and not valid.

Five Democratic candidates vying for a seat in the 54th district of the Michigan House of Representatives flexed their political muscles on Thursday night April 26 in a debate held at Pray-Harrold. Sponsored by the Political Science Department, the College Democrats of EMU and WEMU 89.1 FM, the debate focused on a variety of questions that remains unanswered for voters and residents in this state alike.

EMU football to remain in Mid-American Conference for a "long, long time"

Late Tuesday afternoon, an email was sent out to the Eastern Michigan University community from Interim President Donald Loppnow and all members of the Board of Regents addressing the rumors that have been buzzing the past several days in regards to eliminating football or dropping down to a lower division of the NCAA and dropping out of the Mid-American Conference. In this email, the EMU community was assured that Loppnow and the regents are “please to be a member of an outstanding conference,” and any claims of these rumors are false.

Producer of Modern Family and EMU alumnus holds Q & A

Thursday afternoon Sally Young, the production manager of the Emmy-award winning sitcom Modern Family and an Eastern Michigan Univesrity alumnus graduating forty years back, sat in Quirk-Spongberg Theater to discuss her career and give advice to the EMU community on what it takes to make it in Hollywood. She’s since been involved with movies such as 10 Things I hate About You and A Mother’s Prayer.

McKenny Hall unveils Power of Connection exhibit

Students from Eastern Michigan University’s graduate historic preservation program cut the ribbon and unveiled a new exhibit that highlights the involvement of EMU student organizations over the past 166 years on Thursday, April 14 in McKenny Hall. The McKenny Art Gallery opened in 2014 and showcases a collection of historical photos, artifacts and student artwork engulfing the rich tradition of the institution.

The EMU Food Campus is going to be hosting a food drive in the Student Center all week. They are going to be accepting all non-perishable food items, anytime, in room 346. The semester is ending and students are deciding what their plans are for fall.

EMU observes National Crime Victims Rights Week

In observance of National Crime Victims Rights Week from April 10-16, the Department of Public Safety, Crime Prevention, and Wellness Center partnered to share information with Eastern Michigan University community for an event dedicated to victims’ rights in the Student Center on Thursday, April 14. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week highlights challenges faced by victims and shines light to the everyday struggles and hardships they face as a result from their assaults. These themes accentuate the importance of early intervention and victim services, and establish a safe and compassionate environment where victims can share their stories and receive support. The coordinators of the event aimed to provide outreach as well as spread the word about the university’s many options and programs dealing with crime prevention.

EMU holds Green March for Autism Acceptance

“We don’t need more awareness. Everyone pretty much knows about autism, so we thought it’d be better to have a march for autism acceptance,” Theodore Coutilish, Eastern Michigan University’s Associate VP for Marketing said. The Green March for Autism Acceptance at EMU began in the Student Center at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday. Sally Burton-Hoyle and Callie Boik, the creators this this march, said this event took about a month to organize.

Eastern Michigan University’s Advising and Career Development Center and Peer Engagement Coach Program teamed up to host From College to Career, a workshop to help students build effective resumes and cover letters to send to employers on Thursday, April 7 in McKenny Hall. Lorraine McKnight, senior career coach, lectured on the components of a well written resume and how to incorporate community, campus and other involvements on a resume.


Spring Fest 2015

Migos to perform at Music Matters Charity Concert

Hip Hop trio Migos will perform at the Fifth Annual Music Matters Charity Concert at 8 p.m., April 13, in Hill Auditorium, 825 N University Ave, Ann Arbor. University of Michigan junior Matt Fisher, fundraising chair for Music Matters, said all proceeds from the concert will help fund a summer camp for underrepresented Detroit youth.
