Fish Lake property to remain owned by EMU

Eastern Michigan University President James Smith met with Faculty Senate members on Wednesday, Oct. 12 to discuss the decision to sell EMU Kresge Environmental Center, also known as Fish Lake.

After giving out more than 20,000 pounds of food in its first year of operation, Swoop's Food Pantry has expanded to a larger site in Pierce hall at Eastern Michigan University. Swoop's Pantry, formerly housed in Marshall building, now consists of two rooms and has a waiting room across the hall.

Police Blotter, Oct. 8

At 2:32 a.m. a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted at an off campus residence on North Normal Street. The current status of this case is pending. At 5:59 a.m. a female subject reported that her roommate was intoxicated and in need of medical attention in Village building B. This case was closed on Oct. 2.

Dialogue following racist hate speech on EMU's campus

Eastern Michigan University Administration is in the process of working with black student leaders to form resolutions three weeks following the incidents of racist hate speech being painted on the wall of King Hall, and two days later being written in the stairwell of Wise Hall.

EMU Student Government senate meeting, Sept. 20

Eastern Michigan University senators voted on several resolutions ranging from discontent over dining service transparency, two provisional senator nominations, EMU Board of Regents candidate recommendations to Gov. Rick Snyder and student organization delegates. The three hour meeting was held on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

At 12:33 a.m. the Department of Public Safety received a call regarding suspected marijuana use on the grounds at the Village building. Subjects were also arrested on warrants. This case was closed on Sept. 25.

Students were evacuated as smoke filled Putnam Residence Hall due to an accidental fire reported mid-afternoon on Monday, Sept. 26. The fire started when a hot curling iron came into contact with a mattress in a resident's room. While smoke filled Putnam Hall the fire was confined to that room.

John Merriman, Ph.D., professor of history at Yale University and author, lectured on the origins of modern terrorism and discussed the relationship between anarchists, terrorism and European states on Thursday, Sept. 22 in the Halle Library auditorium.

Thursday, Sept. 15 A burglary was reported at 4:58 p.m. at Concord Drive. The offense occurred on Sept. 15 between 7 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. The current status of this case is open. A subject was arrested for felony warrants and also in possession of a controlled substance at 6:17 p.m. at Adams and Washtenaw Avenue. The current status of this case is open.

Trying to get an early start on the haunts and frights of Halloween? Wiard's Orchard is hosting Night Terrors, a haunted thrill park on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 30 to Oct. 31. There are six haunted attractions in their location on 5565 Merritt Rd., ranging from hayride of the lost, alien caged clowns, the asylum, live action haunted paintball and more. Ticket prices vary based on the attraction.
