Wednesday, Sept. 21 Interim CIO Ron Woody will be discussing IT initiatives on campus from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Rm. 301 of Halle Library. There is no cost to attend and the event is open to the public.

Police Blotter, Sept. 19

Saturday, Sept. 10 At 6:49 p.m. an individual was picked up by authorities on Emmet Street and Hamilton Street for possession of marijuana. This case was closed on Tuesday, Sept. 13.


EMUFT holds rally in support of new contract for EMU lecturers

The Eastern Michigan University Federation of Teachers held a rally outside of Welch Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 7 as the EMUFT negotiates a new contract for full-time lecturers.

A call was placed to DPS after an underage subject was found intoxicated in Putnam Hall and in possession of alcohol. The subjext was transported to a local area hospital, treated and released. The case was closed on Monday.

Police Blotter Aug. 15

Thursday, Aug. 4 A car was pulled over at the corner of Rice and Forest for a traffic violation at 1:17 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. According to the EMU Police Blotter, the “passenger [was] cited for open [alcohol] container in a motor vehicle.” The officer from the Department of Public Safety also “advised” the passenger on a warrant.

During the winter semester, I wrote an article including a series of interviews with members of the Eastern Michigan University that were affected by the Flint water crisis. This summer I followed up on the four interviewees that were included in the article to see if anything has changed about their situation.

Thursday, July 14 Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety assisted the Ypsilanti Police Department in the arrest of an armed man on the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Ballard Street.

EMU employees to lose jobs over budget cuts

Ten EMU employees lost their jobs Monday evening due to budget cuts. Although the number of job losses are known, the actual positions and people have not yet been identified. As interim President Donald Loppnow explained in an email to faculty and staff members, EMU employees who could potentially be cut, will be assessed over a 30-day “bumping” period while Welch Hall negotiates with union members.

A survival guide to purchasing textbooks

The beginning of any college semester is stressful enough as students sign up for classes, fill out financial aid forms, attend orientation, meet with academic advisors and get ready for countless deadlines and all-nighters.



Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions. 

Be sure to tune in weekly to stay up to date on all the Eastern Michigan and Ypsilanti amusement!
