Eastern Michigan University presented with grant to establish new foster parent training program

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) sent a request for proposal (RFP) to design an updated foster parent training curriculum to replace the current educational program required of anyone who is interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent. MDHHS has granted Eastern Michigan University with $689,200 to revise this program with more current research-based content. Leading the project will be EMU's very own Dr. Sarah Shea, Dr. Jennifer Farley and Dr. Jennifer Kellman Fritz.

LGBTQ+ community underrepresented within the Student Government

The Student Government held it’s first official meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10, where Queer and Trans People of Color Collective Coordinator Ariana Khan spoke up about the LGBTQ community not having a voice in the Student Government. Senators heard Khan’s concerns and although they cannot give her an official delegate position, they offered their personal support as well as welcomed her to the gallery of any Student Government meeting that is held.





EMU hosts 2019 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

EMU hosts 8th 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

EMU’s 9/11 memorial features a 14-foot, 7,000 pound beam from the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The tasteful ceremony incorporated members of the EMU and Ypsilanti community in remembering the events of 9/11.



Design and Science Exhibition

Design and Science exhibition visits EMU

The Design and Science exhibition had its opening reception and round table discussion at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center. The exhibition features projects connecting design and science through models, bio-design and representations of natural data.


EagleFest 2019

Eastern Michigan University hosts second annual EagleFest

On Sept. 9, students gathered at the Student Center patio and University Park to learn about different student organizations offered at EMU. EagleFest allows students to not only learn about clubs and sports provided at EMU, but to also meet others interested in the same topics.

Student Body Senate passes resolutions to improve senate involvement

The Student Body Senate held its first official meeting of the 2019-2020 academic year. Elected officials voted to pass two amendments. Resolution 106-03 will now require senators to attend at least one event per month, but will allow the event to be of their choosing. Resolution 105-03 was also amended to raise Speaker Lawrence’s billable hours from 10 to 12 to accommodate the extra training he will be taking on with the large 19-person Senate.


RHA Kick Off Event 2019

Residence Housing Association hosts kick-off

Students had the opportunity to learn more about EMU’s Residence Hall Association as an organization at the Pray-Harrold Kick-off. While there, students had the chance to play games, win prizes and join RHA as Community Representatives.




2019 EMU Student Government members

EMU Student Government introduces new senators

Senators Nick Galluzzo, LaTerricka Osborne, Lily Pellerito and Tyler Kochman were welcomed into the EMU Student Government during the Summer Summit Orientation Meeting. This seven-hour-long meeting held on Sept. 3 began by showcasing new members and what they hope to focus and improve on during this academic school year.
