Eastern Michigan University students launch job search website to fill roles at small businesses in the Ypsilanti and the Downriver community

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) student Collin Clem and recent EMU graduate Anthony Levesque have worked together to launch a website that works to help small businesses fill entry level positions. The website, Employee RoundUp, is aimed to help students and other individuals with limited skills fill positions in the Ypsilanti and Downriver areas.

Ypsilanti house shooting occurs south of campus; no injuries reported

The Eastern Michigan Police sent out an email to all students and staff Sunday afternoon about a shooting that occurred just south of campus on the 200 block of Normal Street. No injuries have been reported. Police learned that two individuals had discharged a firearm and struck a house.

Second shooting in two weeks leaves Ypsilanti Township apartment complex window shot out, car riddled with bullet holes

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is currently investigating a shooting at the Aspen Chase apartment complex in Ypsilanti Township. This is the second shooting in two weeks at the apartment complex following an accidental homicide and suicide on Thanksgiving day that left two 22-year-old men dead. Police do not have any suspects at this time. This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is being asked to contact WCSO at 734-973-7711

College of Business goes virtual with 2020 Digital Marketing Workshops and Entrepreneurship Speaker Series

The CDE events allowed attendees to join a panel discussion via Facebook live to gain insight on how businesses have adapted to moving online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other transformational events of 2020. Chris Kaufman spoke to students and attendees on how he helped to co-found the successful e-commerce site StockX.

The campus area crime map is a report of criminal activity that has been reported in the Ypsilanti-area as well as on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The following crimes mapped were reported to City of Ypsilanti crime log between Dec. 1 through Dec. 5.



Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions.
