Sex assault suspect's hearing set for June 29

A man accused of entering the residence of a female Eastern Michigan University student and sexually assaulting her was arraigned Thursday on one count of first-degree home invasion and felonious assault with a knife and one count of first-degree criminal sexual assault.

EMU Police offer students tips to guard against crime

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department has asked students and neighborhood residents to take necessary precautions to guard themselves against burglaries. The notice was sent out by the department following an increase in residential burglaries in areas located around EMU’s campus. Burglaries have been reported on several streets near campus, including Emmet, North Adams and two on Cross Street. EMU and Ypsilanti police are working together to investigate the recent increase in crimes.

June 15 A larceny of a laptop occurred at the Convocation Center at 6:04 p.m. June 16 An intoxicated minor was found in possession of alcohol on LeForge Road and Huron River Drive, at 3:05 a.m. An individual was found in possession of marijuana at Lowell Street and Forest Avenue at 4:38 p.m.

Enrollment rise addressed

At a Board of Regents meeting on Tuesday, President Susan Martin said summer enrollment is set to exceed the target of 3.4 percent growth from the same time last year.

Adjunct staff joins union

Eastern Michigan University adjunct instructors gained representation last Tuesday. Ballots proved the majority of voters agreed with the proposal of a union between adjunct professors and the Eastern Michigan University Federation of Teachers.

President, Board of Regents address rise in enrollment

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents met Tuesday to formally approve a number of business concerns and staff appointments. The meeting opened with a report from President Susan Martin, which highlighted a number of positive achievements made by the university over the last few months.

Ypsi citizens support cancer research with Relay for Life

Cancer survivors and supporters will participate in the 2010 Relay for Life event at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Park. Relay for Life began in Tacoma, Wash. Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, decided he wanted to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. Klatt began to raise money for his local American Cancer Society office by running marathons

B-side honors participants

Visitors to the Student Center were welcomed by an unfamiliar sound Thursday in a familiar place. Live heavy metal music was pumped through the complex, emanating from a conference room on the third floor. The performance, by a band called In the Name of the King, was the opening entertainment for a youth entrepreneurship showcase presented by The Business Side of Youth.

June 6 — Damage to business property in Jones Hall was reported. A subject was arrested for possession of marijuana while walking through campus near West Circle Drive and Oakwood Street at 11:08 p.m.

Martin joining Ann Arbor non-profit

Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin was elected to Ann Arbor SPARK’s board of directors at the group’s annual meeting in May. Leigh Greden, executive director of government and community relations at EMU was also named to SPARK’s executive committee.
