Campus: At 9 a.m. Tuesday, a laptop was stolen from Sellers Hall. The suspect was believed to be a guest in the building. A person was arrested for possessing hallucinogens and outstanding warrants at 12:35 p.m.

Carnes continues lecture series at EMU

This past Thursday Mark C. Carnes, a professor of history at Barnard College in New York delivered the third part of his lecture series “Rethink Higher Education.” In this lecture, entitled “Why History Textbooks (Including My Own) Don’t Get It,” Carnes questioned the use and effectiveness of textbooks in classrooms. “I cut out all of the detours and the ambiguity in my textbook to make it more concise,” Carnes said.

Geotourism, history can be key to Michigan's rebirth

The Eastern Michigan University Department of Geography and Geology along with the Southeast Michigan Heritage Tourism Alliance will hold the first Southeast Michigan geotourism conference this Thursday in the Student Center Ballroom to explore unique tourism opportunities in Michigan. The conference will last from 8 a.m.

Campus: A domestic violence incident was reported at 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday in Westview Apartments after a victim was choked during a physical altercation. At 7:59 p.m.

Nov. 7 An underage subject was cited for a MIP on Lowell Street and Circle Drive at 1:45 a.m. An intoxicated subject was discovered on Railroad Street at 1:33 a.m. A vehicle’s windows were broken out in the North Campus Lot at 1:35 a.m. A subject was discovered using marijuana in Wise Hall at 6 p.m. A suspect cut a screen and smashed a bedroom window to gain entry into a residence in the 200 block of South Hewitt Road at 6 p.m.

Panelists recall military service

A discussion panel entitled American Indians: Stories of Their Experiences in the U. S. Military took place this Tuesday as part of Native American Heritage Month at Eastern Michigan University.

Campus: A minor was issued a citation by campus police for underage drinking at 12:03 a.m. Saturday in the Sellers Residence Hall. At 10:09 p.m.

Campus: Tuesday A minor was found in possession of alcohol at 1:08 a.m. Tuesday in Hill Hall. The case is still open. A homeless man was found sleeping in an external stairwell at 10:15 a.m.


Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions. 

Be sure to tune in weekly to stay up to date on all the Eastern Michigan and Ypsilanti amusement!
