Secretary discusses health care

On the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius held a national call with university reporters Friday to discuss the benefits of the new health care law to the graduating class of 2011.

March 21- Two X-box game systems and miscellaneous X-box games were taken around 5 a.m. from a residence in the 1000 block of Stamford Road after a suspect opened an unlocked rear door to gain entry. An armed robbery occurred in the 1000 block of Textile Road after a suspect entered a store with a white t-shirt over his face.

Eastern Michigan University students gathered at the Student Center stage Wednesday night to listen to the student body president candidates debate. The four candidates debated a wide range of issues from parking on campus to changes in the Student Senate.

University keeps quiet on recent data heist

Eastern Michigan University is still not releasing any new information regarding the data security breach that occurred earlier this month after two former student employees accessed the personal information of 45 students and provided it to a third party.

Campus: March 20 – A subject was arrested at 8:16 p.m. for resisting arrest for simple assault in Sellers Hall.

Defendant in Ypsi homicide arraigned

A man was arraigned last Thursday in connection with a homicide that occurred Feb. 26 in the 1300 block of Nash Street in Ypsilanti Township. Darnell Javon Brown, 31, was charged with seven counts including open murder, assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, weapons carrying concealed, weapons firearms possession by felon and weapons felony firearm. Marcus Tramale Jones, 33, was shot and murdered outside of his home.

Campus: March 16- A subject was arrested at 12:08 a.m. for narcotic paraphernalia and open intoxicants on Pearl Street near Adams Street. A computer monitor was stolen at 3:05 p.m.

Preliminary exams set in shooting case

Two Ypsilanti Township residents were arrested and arraigned Friday for an attempted shooting of a man following a verbal confrontation at the Dairy Mart on Textile Road last Wednesday evening.


Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions.
