EMU bus efforts continue

The need for more parking is a frequent demand in automobile-dependent Southeast Michigan. Last year, newly elected Student Government President Jelani McGadney and Vice President Jeffrey Chicoine took a fresh approach to this demand: to offer EMU students, faculty and staff the chance to buy a discounted Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) bus pass.

Online privacy concerns raised

Internet user privacy concerns are back in U.S. court again; the civil case revolves around little known tracking methods being used to gather users’ browsing histories, without their knowledge or consent, and potentially affects every Internet user. The lawsuit alleges KISSmetrics, a California based website analytics company, violated the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act, by intentionally exploiting user software to bypass browser security settings, with the intent of intercepting and disclosing user information. The class action lawsuit filed by the KamberLaw firm, in the U.S.

Insight granted into EMU budget

At the Sept. 20 Board of Regents meeting, Eastern Michigan University’s Chief Financial Officer John Lumm reported that the university was suffering from a $4.6 million deficit and recently, he sat down with The Eastern Echo to provide further insight into EMU’s budget.

The long-empty 38-acre Water Street site on Michigan Avenue just east of central Ypsilanti might become the site of a public recreation center if the Ypsilanti City Council takes up a proposal from Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Department.

Crown House of Gifts, located in Ann Arbor’s Traver Village shopping center, will be hosting a food drive from Monday to Friday.


Locals discuss liquor sales permit

Ypsilanti business owner Paul Ajlouny of Eagles Market, 501 W. Cross St., said purchasing a permit from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to sell alcohol before noon on Sundays was an easy decision for him. “Demand, simple as that,” he said.
