Author talks about Afghanistan peace delegations

Mike Ferner, author and executive director of Veterans for Peace, spoke Thursday at Pray-Harrold about participating in last year’s peace delegations to Afghanistan by Chicago-based Voice for Creative Non-Violence. Images and videos flooded a screen in the auditorium of room 204 of Eastern Michigan University’s lecture hall before the talk began.

Senator Carl Levin visited Eastern Michigan University’s campus Monday morning to speak to an Analysis and Change of Social Welfare Policy class. Levin has been serving in the Senate since 1978 and is Michigan’s senior United States Senator.

Sheryl Stolberg provided her audience with insight into the world of politics and journalism with stories of her endeavors as White House correspondent for The New York Times at a talk in Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center Auditorium last Wednesday.

EMU budget falls $4.6M short

Eastern Michigan University’s budget crisis isn’t losing momentum; the shortfall is up to $4.6 million — $2.9 million more than what was announced at last month’s Board of Regents meeting.

Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions. 

Be sure to tune in weekly to stay up to date on all the Eastern Michigan and Ypsilanti amusement!
