Eagle Crest Resort: Money issues lead to management change

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents made major changes to the management of Eagle Crest Resort, during its meeting Tuesday in 201 Welch Hall, because under the former management arrangement the university had been losing “maybe $150,000 a year” EMU Chief Financial Officer John Lumm said.

Regents to vote on fall room, board increase

Eastern Michigan University students will see their 2012-13 academic year rates for residence halls, meal plans and apartments increase 4.95 percent if approved by the Board of Regents at its Tuesday meeting. During the current 2011-12 academic year, students with single rooms in Hoyt, Hill and Pittman Halls and Platinum 18 meal plans paid $9,546.



Final candidate interviews for chief of police position at EMU

The last of five candidates for Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety chief of police was interviewed in a public forum on April 13 in room 330 of the Student Center. Police Captain Scott Pavlik began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a corrections officer for the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department.

Domestic violence education

Hundreds of women go to SafeHouse Center every year to report domestic violence and sexual assault they suffered while in college, according the SafeHouse Executive Director Barbara Niess-May. “We see anywhere between 400 and 500 people a year who were assaulted in college, whether they are in college right now or were assaulted in the past,” Niess-May said.

The fourth of five candidates for Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety chief of police was interviewed in a public forum on April 11 in room 302 of the Student Center. Mark Reiss, Chief of Police for Riverside, OH, said he has wanted to be EMU’s chief of police for a long time.

Lt. Robert Heighes interviewed for the chief of police position for Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety, in a public forum on April 10 in room 350 of the Student Center.


The right to bear arms: Bill challenges campus gun policy

A bill proposed in the Michigan Senate would challenge Michigan universities’ authority in campus gun policy by revising state law to allow citizens with concealed weapon licenses to carry in these no-carry zones after completing increased licensing requirements.

FTB off the menu for Eastern Michigan

“Pink slime” has been off the menu for two years, and its close cousin “finely textured beef” (FTB) will be eliminated from orders as of April 9, according to Larry Gates, director of Dining Services and Executive Chef Tom Murray at Eastern Michigan University.
