EMU issues discussed by city council

Eastern Michigan University came up several times in Tuesday evening’s Ypsilanti City Council meeting with respect to petroleum contamination at the site of the College of Business, the value of an intern to the Historic District Commission and the impact of the proposed new city income tax on EMU employees.

Women's History Month celebrated around campus

“Too often the history of women has been left out of books. The purpose of celebrating Women’s History Month is to pay tribute to women, to acknowledge the struggle and let them know it was worth it,” said Dorthea Thomas, a women and gender studies major, student program coordinator at the Women’s Resource Center and founder of the Minority Women and Leadership Commission.

Monday afternoon, an audience of about 40 heard Emory University Associate Professor of Political Science Michael Leo Owens describe his perception that the political engagement of majority black congregations in historically black churches has lessened, specifically in the Obama years.

Eastern's Board of Trustees discuss changes

The Board of Trustees of the Eastern Michigan University Foundation met Friday morning at the Eagle Crest Golf Club House as various committees and members of the Eastern Michigan University community gave updates on the state of the foundation, the university and goals for the future.


EMU welcomes its new provost

On Wednesday evening, about 50 members of the faculty and staff attended a welcome reception for the new provost and vice president of EMU, Kim Schatzel, who started on Jan.




'All Eyes on U.S.' kept conversation going

Attending students were in for a personal political experience at “All Eyes on U.S.,” an event run by the Eastern Michigan University Student Government to help promote student awareness of the 2012 political election.
