Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Archie Brown gave Jeremiah Kena Sawyer a 3-year-and-8-month sentence April 25, for the unarmed robbery of Eastern Michigan University student Darin Thomas Smith on Aug. 24, 2011.

Pancakes help promote aviation program

Alpha Eta Rho, Eastern Michigan University’s aviation fraternity, held their annual Pancake Breakfast and Fly-in on Saturday at Willow Run Airport. United States President Barack Obama held a conference call aboard Air Force One with journalists from around the country Tuesday to discuss the need for Congress to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling July 1— which is expected to add on average around $1,000 to students’ debt.

Although Eastern Michigan University alumnus Dave Coverly has an impressive resume as a syndicated cartoonist with his comic “Speed Bump”—which is featured in over 400 publications and websites worldwide— Coverly said his upcoming commencement speech will not be about his experiences, but about the graduates and the next level of their lives.

EMU to get 4.95 % room, board increase

Room and board rates will increase by 4.95 percent next year, as approved by the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents in a seven-to-one vote at the general meeting on April 17.

Eagle Crest Resort: Money issues lead to management change

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents made major changes to the management of Eagle Crest Resort, during its meeting Tuesday in 201 Welch Hall, because under the former management arrangement the university had been losing “maybe $150,000 a year” EMU Chief Financial Officer John Lumm said.
