The Eastern Michigan University Honors College registration drive ended Wednesday. The drive was intended to raise awareness of the program and raise the number of Honors students to over 1,000 for the first time in a decade.

Eastern Michigan University Student Government voted to endorse the DREAM Act. Student Government President, Jelani McGadney, was enthusiastic about the vote and said he will write a “signing statement” to present to the EMU Board of Regents.

Last year, Ypsilanti’s Historic District Commission handled over 100 applications, put on six training workshops, proposed a new city ordinance to protect and preserve historic signs and wrote a grant application for money to do the preservation.

Eastern Michigan University came up several times in Tuesday evening’s Ypsilanti City Council meeting with respect to petroleum contamination at the site of the College of Business, the value of an intern to the Historic District Commission and the impact of the proposed new city income tax on EMU employees.

Women's History Month celebrated around campus

“Too often the history of women has been left out of books. The purpose of celebrating Women’s History Month is to pay tribute to women, to acknowledge the struggle and let them know it was worth it,” said Dorthea Thomas, a women and gender studies major, student program coordinator at the Women’s Resource Center and founder of the Minority Women and Leadership Commission.




Introducing The Eastern Echo’s newest event and news based podcast, Scoop on the Scene. These weekly episodes will be hosted by the organization’s Digital Editor, Julez DeShetler. She intends to bring awareness to the events happening on an around campus to Echo listeners. 

DeShetler’s goal with the podcast is to encourage students and community members to get involved in an educated, safe and fun manner. She will list various events to choose from in addition to sharing the key details of said events. 

These podcasts can be expected to come out near the weekends and be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

For the week of Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, DeShetler includes events such as sports, a pub crawl, yoga, a movie in the park, Study Abroad Fair and training sessions.
