New contract pends approval

The Eastern Michigan University chapter of the American Association of University Professors voted overwhelmingly to approve a new three-year contract by a margin of 288-7, or 98 percent in consent.

Norfleet, Miller share love for EMU

To the casual observer, Matthew Norfleet and Desmond Miller might seem like an unexpected pairing: one a senior, the other a sophomore; one involved in Student Government since his earliest days as a freshman at Eastern Michigan University, the other a transfer student who didn’t get involved until late in the game.

TurboVote allows online registering

Eastern Michigan University’s Student Government has partnered with the university to implement TurboVote, an online tool that allows EMU students to quickly register to vote at emich.turbovote.org.

In the golden age of technology, people surf the Internet for research, leisure or keeping up with friends and family. Recently, however, a malicious trend known as cyberspace hate, where people use the Web to harass and spread animosity, has been on the rise.

EMU Student Government's first 2012-13 senate session

Eastern Michigan University’s Student Government began preparations August 19 for the fall 2012 semester, which will begin Sept. 5, at their Summer Summit meeting that included an official senate meeting, as well as multiple workshops to train new senators and directors.

EMU aviation program names new director

Soaring high above the clouds as a pilot has been a lifelong dream for Chris Sorenson, who recently became the director of operations and chief flight instructor of Eastern Michigan University’s Eagle Flight Center at Willow Run Airport; initially Sorenson wanted to obtain his pilot’s license and go to work for the airlines, but his plans changed once he got a taste of teaching.




EMU faculty and staff contract negotiations update

Eastern Michigan University continued negotiating last week with two of its eight labor unions: the EMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors which is representing faculty members, and the clerical staff UAW 1975 union. The university already reached an agreement with the police officers’ union on June 26.
