Session informs about teaching in China

On Monday, Sept. 30, at the Porter College of Education, Eastern Michigan University professor Karen Paciorek gave an informational session for EMU students who may be interested in teaching in China.

Vision’s GREEN is holding a storm drain labeling event on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 1-4 p.m. The event begins in room 204 of the Student Center, where GREEN will describe how proper stormwater management can improve rivers, streams and lakes. This event is also LBC approved.



Proposals approved for two new programs

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents Educational Policies Committee discussed retention rates and garnered new proposals for a public health major and a master’s program in the field of philosophy on Tuesday at Welch Hall.

Robbery suspect arrested

A suspect has been arrested in the incident concerning an armed robbery that took place off-campus in the city of Ypsilanti near the intersection of Summit and Sheridan Street, which is located one block south of the main campus and Washtenaw Avenue.

Sept. 21 A minor found acting strangely in Pittman Hall at 1:46 a.m. admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. Several minors in Phelps Hall admitted to drinking alcohol at 2:23 a.m.

Students can take steps to ensure safety

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is the campus’ best source of student safety. But it is also essential that students do their part to insure their own safety and the safety of others at EMU.



	According to Washtenaw County’s website, “Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to be in an accident.”

Washtenaw County promotes ‘It Can Wait’ campaign

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and LaFontaine Automotive Group have teamed up to promote AT&T’s anti-texting and driving campaign, “It Can Wait.” On Sept. 19, they asked Washtenaw County residents to take a pledge at itcanwait.com to refrain from texting and driving.


	On Friday, the Eastern Michigan University Advising and Career Development Center hosted an IT job fair in the Student Center. Representatives from 10 different companies set up individual stations in room 310 of the EMU Student Center. Students spoke with each of the representatives in an interview-like format.

With the cold and flu season closing in on us – and for a few of us, already here – it might be time for a reminder about those key health tips we learned in grade school. Much like basic algebra and English skills, we forget simple things like singing our ABCs when washing our hands or how to have a solid sleeping pattern.
