Speaker discusses growth after traumatic events

On Wednesday in Pray-Harrold, Amis Harbin, an assistant professor in both the philosophy and women and gender studies programs at Oakland University, gave a speech called “The Limits of Post-Traumatic Growth.” In it, she discussed many professional views on the topic as well as her own view.

WRC wraps up Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Women’s Resource Center hosted the final event in their domestic violence awareness month series on Wednesday. The event was a screening of the documentary “No Way Out But One.” After the documentary screened, WRC coordinator Ellen Collier lead a discussion about domestic violence and of the issues raised by the film.

EMU’s College of Business issues journal on global business communication— Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business has published a second journal on global business communication. The journal takes a look at a changing-but-interactive process of global communication, according to an article from the Division of Communications.

Public forums discuss safety on and off campus

EMU President Susan Martin, along with EMU Police Chief Bob Heighes and Ypsilanti’s Interim Police Chief Tony DeGiusti, attended a series of public forums being held around campus last week to discuss safety issues with students.

The most exciting activity for many children on Halloween is undoubtedly going trick-or-treating, but if you plan on going with your kids, siblings or friends, it is very important to be safe on this night.





Rally honors slain students

On Thursday, the Increase The Peace Rally & Walk kicked off in front of the north doors of the Student Center. This student rally and march was against the recent spat of violence and crime that has plagued the community at Eastern Michigan University since the murder of Julia Niswender almost a year ago. Several hundred people showed up for the event.

How safe is Ypsilanti?

In the past year, three homicides occurred in the area directly north of campus. In December 2012, junior communication and electronic media and film studies major Julia Niswender was presumably murdered in her apartment at Peninsular Place. The father of an EMU student was killed in a dispute in March 2013 in the same complex, and sophomore communication major and student-athlete Demarius Reed was found dead in the University Green apartments, down the street from Peninsular Place.
