Eastern Michigan University’s College of Technologies is using Google Glass to experiment with augmented reality.The department purchased two pairs of Google Glasses in July, and Phillip Cardon, one of the leading professors in the augmented reality experiments, said Google Glass technology is a stepping-stone to new possibilities.“This will revolutionize how we teach,” Cardon said.

Swastika defaces Students for Life chalk display

A Students for Life sidewalk chalk display was defaced with drawings of swastikas Tuesday evening.EMU’s Students for Life is an on-campus chapter of the national pro-life organization, Students for Life of America.

The Student Government Senate met Tuesday and discussed standing committee reports, including internal affairs, business & finance, public affairs and academic and student relations reports.Student Government President, Desmond Miller, outlined student government’s priorities for 2014-2014.

LGBT community plant rainbow flag

EMU students created LGBT visibility by putting thousands of colored flags in the ground to create a large rainbow flag in the courtyard next to Pray-Harrold Sunday afternoon.EMU junior Alex Bakhaus, event coordinator for the LGBT Resource Center, said the main purpose of the flag display is to inform new students and those who don't know there are LGBT resources on campus that a community is here for them.

Alexander Music Building Staircase Under ConstructionCaution tape will block off the sidewalk between the back of Alexander Music Building and the side of Sill Hall as construction crews break down the old stairs and prepare to build a new entrance.

Regents extend Susan Martin's contract through July 2016

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents approved an extension of president Susan Martin’s contract from July 8, 2015 through July 7, 2016 at its regular meeting in Welch Hall Tuesday.Martin’s yearly salary has been increased from $300,000 to $340,000, effective November 1, 2014.



Students learn car safety tips

EMU Police Officer Candace Dorsey joined with Budget Towing owner Billy Salamay to provide a presentation and hands-on experience about car safety Wednesday afternoon at the McKenny Hall training suite.Dorsey said her job as the crime prevention coordinator for the police department involves going into the community and talking about safety.


EMU grad brings international perspective to local theater

Spinning Dot Theater is a new company in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area that creates global awareness by performing international plays.The brainchild of Jenny Koppera, a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, the theater is made up of three components, the professional company, the artist in residency and the youth theater company.
