'A Place at the Table' addresses food justice issues

The Volunteers Incorporating Service into Our Neighborhoods Center and the Social Welfare Action Alliance held a viewing of the 2012 documentary, “A Place at the Table,” in the Halle Library Auditorium Wednesday night to address the issue of the 50 million Americans without enough to eat.

'Nathan's Law' to bring bicycle and motorcycle awareness to driver's ed

Oct. 14 was a good day for bicyclists and motorcyclists, when Governor Rick Snyder signed Public Act 317, also known as Nathan’s Law, to add information about bicycle and motorcycle awareness to the Michigan drivers’ education curriculum. The Act passed the Michigan House unanimously in June and was named after Nathan Bower, a 19-year-old who was killed in a motorist/motorcyclist accident in 2009.

EMU institutes new pilot program to help student parents

Eastern Michigan University took its first steps in helping students who are parents graduate by approving a pilot parenting student support program for the 2015 winter semester.The parenting student support program will work within the Women’s Resource Center.

Students on Eastern Michigan University’s campus are working to bring food justice to those in need.Food justice is a term used to define and describe the work of eradicating food insecurity.



Enviromental Clean Up Day

Fifth annual Clean Up Day sees turnout of over 700 recyclers

Stacks of trash were shuttled to Rynearson Stadium parking lot to be properly disposed of by the regional environmental recycling program presented by Washtenaw County on Saturday.Celebrating the fifth annual Clean Up Day held at Eastern Michigan University, 700-900 recyclers showed up to safely discard their hazardous materials.

VISION holds challenge for student organizations

Haley Moraniec, coordinator for the Volunteer Challenge at the VISION Center, said that this is VISION’s first year doing “the challenge,” a program designed to familiarize students with social justice issues and get them involved with service projects.“If all goes well, we plan to make it an annual challenge,” Moraniec said.All student organizations were invited by Campus Life to participate.
