EMU Wellness Center hosted Healthy Minds Jeopardy

The Eastern Michigan University Wellness center hosted the “Healthy Minds Jeopardy hour” in the Student Center Friday. Energies were high among students as they participated in a Jeopardy game immediately following a lecture on health and wellness on campus, substance abuse and mental illness.

Seena Skelton will close the Porter Chair Lecture series

Seena Skelton will be speaking at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center. Skelton will be speaking on the topic of “Institutionalizing Cultural Knowledge: A process for engaging in critical reflection on policy.” Skelton works for the regional Equity Assistance Center, located at Indiana University.

Student-athletes train to become active bystanders

By the end of the 2015 Winter semester, all student athletes will complete education and training for Eastern Michigan University’s “Step Up, Stand Up: Be An Active Bystander” program. The Step Up Program was developed by Dr. Kay Woodiel, a professor of health education at EMU, and Dr. Melissa Rosenblum, a staff psychologist and coordinator of Outreach Programs for Counseling and Psychological Services at Snow Health Center in 2012 and is accessible to all students.

EMU graduate continues to find success at Ivy League school

Since graduating Eastern Michigan University in the spring of 2014, Honors alum Nino Monea has been making the most out of living in Cambridge Massachusetts while attending Harvard Law School, including enjoying the local cuisine—right down to the clam chowder. “It's quite good, although it's typically pronounced "chowdah" around here!” Monea said.

BDSM versus abuse: lines are grey

Erica Smith, a graduate student of behavioral psychology, facilitated a lecture titled “Sex Posi+ive: What’s your kink?” Tuesday evening in Room 352 of the Student Center. The lecture discussed the differences between an actual bondage, domination, sadism and masochism relationship, and that of the one depicted in the book by E.L. James, “50 Shades of Grey”.

Student senator proposes formal investigation of student government president

·

Student senator William McDonald proposed a formal investigation of Student Government president Desmond Miller at an internal affairs meeting Tuesday. McDonald raised three areas of concern as to why he wants this formal investigation to take place, the first being impropriety of his executive directors. The first area of concern was Miller’s relationship status with Eden Zimak, the chair of the public affairs committee and director of social justice for Student Government.
