Simple, last-minute Halloween costume ideas

·

If you’re anything like me you let important events sneak up on you. When that important event happens to be Halloween, you may find yourself scrambling to assemble a costume that can be considered at least kind of witty and creative the morning of that spooktacular day.

Get to know Swoop

·

Eastern Michigan University’s mascot of 20 years has been a cause of much debate. The eagle that was chosen to replace EMU’s Native American mascot attends football games, parties and events on campus.

Katie's Craft Corner #8

Why do T-shirts get worn out so quickly? Well, for one thing, T-shirts are knitted, which means they’re basically made of one thin cotton string. This string is looped together into a fabric made of little interlocking Vs. When one loop gets damaged and the fabric stretches, every loop has a chance of getting ripped out. Not to mention the best tees are typically worn to death by their owners.

EMU lecturer releases biography on author, poet in US

·

Eastern Michigan University lecturer David Calonne’s biography on German-born American au-thor and poet Charles Bukowski was released in the U.S. Sept. 15 as part of London-based publisher Reaktion Books’ Critical Lives series, which covers the works of leading modern cultural figures in art, writing and philosophy.

Staff picks: Video games

“The only game that’s kept my attention recently is ‘Alice: Madness Returns.’ It’s a dark turn on the already demented ‘Alice in Wonderland’ fable.

Kitchen 101: Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

·

Yes, I’m aware that we just did Reese’s Peanut Butter Puff Daddy Muffins a few weeks back. But these are delicious, so get over it. I got the idea for these diet murdering bastards from Echo comics editor, Christine “Crass” Deneweth.

Sometimes you just don’t want to venture into a coffee shop to get your caffeine fix. Maybe you want to cut down on those tempting $5 lattes. Maybe you don’t want to have to wait in line. Maybe you have an irrational fear of baristas. Either way, you are absolutely not going into that coffee shop and that is final, but you still want a coffee. See the dilemma?

Kitchen 101: Kitchen tools

·

Every chef needs his or her tools. If you listen to the cooks and chefs on Food Network, you might believe that you need an arsenal to boil an egg, but that’s hardly true.

Caffeine Chronicles #5: Explores Cafe Racer

·

Cafe Racer is not your stereotypical coffeehouse. Nestled in the heart of Ypsilanti’s pleasantly-quirky Depot Town, it would be easy to walk right by the building without giving it a second thought.

Katie's Craft Corner #4: Headbands

·

There are things to love about early morning classes: Being on campus when it’s cool and quiet, starting your subject with a fresh outlook and that feeling of accomplishment to have part of your day’s schedule done before lunchtime. The downside? No time for a great hairstyle.

Leap out of comfort zone to meet friends

·

No man (or woman) is an island, and that holds even more truth when it comes to the college years. You may never feel as vivacious or willing to experience all life has to offer, but it can be difficult to make memories without a couple comrades by your side. And at the rate your life is likely changing, friend-turnover is common and people who have been closely connected for years may drift apart.

·

When it comes to fashion, how you wear something is almost as important as what you wear. You have to create your own style based on your likes and dislikes. Everything that you wear should be as unique as you are.
