Wintertime is over... time for spring fashion

·

The break in our treacherous Michigan weather is right around the corner, which means it’s time for a change in wardrobes. Although outside it’s still really chilly, spring is upon us, and the sun has been shining brighter each day. There are some amazing trends to look forward to this season, and I’ll give the rundown on them with focus on things outside of actual apparel.

Tote bags are one of those things everyone needs and has a distinct preference for: preppy, white nautical canvas bags with navy or red handles; giant, leather purse-style totes loaded with metal hardware; or crisp, quilted cotton bags in colorful prints.

The Ypsilanti Steering Committee will meet with EMU Wednesday and walk through town, inviting people to make suggestions.

Ypsi committee looks for Eastern opinions

·

Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Joan of Arc, Plato and Aristotle were each individuals who brought about change. Often, in comparison to these people, it may seem impossible that you have an opportunity to affect the world on that level, but the Ypsilanti Steering Committee says otherwise. The YSC is looking for members of the Eastern Michigan University community to come and suggest changes for the City of Ypsilanti.

For an unapologetic girly-girl like myself, I look forward to the gorgeous couture gowns at the Oscars. But afterward, I can’t help but feel a little blah for the average person. Occasions to wear something beautiful and glamorous may not come often, but luckily you don’t have to be Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone to wear an amazing one-of-a-kind accessory.

Stay safe during break: Ask questions, watch friends

·

Winter break is commonly known as spring break, unless you’re stuck in Michigan freezing your butt off. However, it doesn’t matter if you’re headed down to the warm beaches of Mexico or stuck in the Northwest, there are a lot of opportunities for you to get hurt. College women in particular tend to find themselves in dangerous situations during spring break.

‘Safe Haven’ enjoyable but unmoving

·

In high school, I ravaged any and every Nicholas Sparks novel I could lay my voracious hands on. My favorite was “The Notebook” until “The Choice” emerged as a serious contender. I was drawn to the flawed yet lovable characters, the almost believable real-life situations and the gamble of whether or not the ending would leave me grinning moronically at the undeniable existence of never-ending love or doubled over dry heaving because I couldn’t possibly squeeze out one more agonizing tear. As S.E. Hinton would say “that was then, this is now.”
