Eagles drop MAC championship rematch, 71-64

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team struggle offensively and lose to the Ohio University Bobcats by a score of 71-64 in an early Mid-American Conference meeting on Wednesday night in Ypsilanti, MI. The Eagles (10-4; 2-2 MAC) guard Phillis Webb got the offense going early in the game scoring nine points and grabbing six rebounds as Eastern Michigan led 19-14 to end the first.


Defense stifles Buffalo in EMU win

Coming off of a loss to Northern Illinois, the Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team stepped up defensively to beat the University of Buffalo. The Eagles held Buffalo to just 24 percent from the three point line and scored 28 points off of turnovers in the 81-69 victory.

After the loss to North Florida Saturday afternoon, Eastern Michigan men’s basketball coach Rob Murphy made some adjustments to the starting lineups, having Willie Mangum and Tim Bond come off the bench, putting Jodan Price and Raven Lee in the starting position.

Women's basketball falls to Akron despite first-half lead

Despite an early 28-22 halftime lead, the Eastern Michigan women's basketball team lost its first Mid-American Conference match-up with the University of Akron Zips by a score of 68-65 on Wednesday night in Ypsilanti, MI. Akron (7-6, 1-1 MAC) took a 46-44 lead halfway through the fourth quarter before Eastern head coach Tori Verdi called timeout with 4:36 remaining.

Despite having six players in double-digit scoring, it wasn’t enough for the Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team in its final non-conference game to the University of North Florida Saturday afternoon in Ypsilanti as they lost 82-77.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team opened up conference play with a victory over the University at Buffalo Bulls 67-56 in Ypsilanti on Saturday afternoon.

The Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team continued their momentum heading into Mid-American Conference season by defeating the University of Detroit-Mercy Titans 85-68 in Detroit on Wednesday night.




Eagles upset the Wolverines 64-63

Christmas comes early for the Eastern Michigan women's basketball team as the Eagles upset the University of Michigan Wolverines, 64-63 on Wednesday night. EMU's defense allowed the Eagles defense to prevail over the Wolverines allowing only to score 20 points in the second half including six points in the fourth quarter.


‘Felt like a home game,’ as Baltimore welcomed Tim Bond back

An alley-oop thrown to Tim Bond brought down the house in Baltimore, Md., Monday night. The 6-foot-7 guard graduated from City College High School in, “The Greatest City in America,” as Baltimore is nicknamed, where he led his high school team to a 27-0 record and a 3A state championship in 2014.

Tim Bond made his homecoming one to remember in his return to Baltimore, Md. having gone for 14 points, four rebounds and a couple steals in Eastern Michigan’s 73-62 win over the Coppin State University Eagles, Monday night.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team used a stifling defensive effort to cruise past the Madonna University Crusaders, 104-45, in Livonia, Mich. on Friday night.





EMU coach reflects on negative media coverage

Following the win against Rochester College, Eastern Michigan men’s basketball coach Rob Murphy expressed his thoughts on the media about criticism regarding the scheduling of games this season. “I’ve been taught by experiences; from being a successful high school coach, working for a hall of fame coach, that you really have to ignore what the papers write,” Murphy said. “But we schedule the people we can afford to schedule, period.

Big fourth quarter leads to Eagles victory over Harvard

The Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team defeated Harvard University by a score of 85-81, being led by star guard Cha Sweeney who put 31 points on the board against the Crimson in Cambridge, Mass on Tuesday evening. Sweeney and Phillis Webb, who scored 18 points, led the Eagles (5-2) past the Crimson (4-5) in a comeback victory after a slow start that put Eastern Michigan behind 41-36 at halftime.
