Sure, we can have Siri make us reminders and Alexa can add things to our grocery lists, but sometimes writing our tasks down can really benefit us in more ways than you\\u2019d expect. Researchers at Princeton claim writing it down will help you remember it. This can be especially helpful if you're taking summer courses. Here\\u2019s a few great ways to get motivated!

The Empty Mug Showcase in Downtown Ann Arbor

On Thursday, Jan 11, Empty Mug Records hosted their first showcase of 2018 at the Blind Pig in downtown Ann Arbor.  Empty Mug, a University of Michigan student run organization, hosts a showcase once a month around the downtown Ann Arbor area, and looks to host a variety of artists from the Southeast Michigan area. Thursday night’s showcase was no exception, featuring Ann Arbor’s Lily Talmers and Been Stellar, and Ypsilanti locals Ness Lake and Normal Park.

On Thursday, January 11, Eastern Michigan University held Jazz Night, an event for both students and the public with music, food, and lots of dancing. The event took place in Room 300 of the Student Center, hosted by Campus Life, an EMU Student Organization.

Saturday's Show at the Pike Room

On Saturday, Jan. 6, Detroit area punks, Daisys, bid farewell to their Southeast Michigan family at the Pike Room, calling it quits for the time-being. Daisys have been performing non-stop since releasing their full length “Guest Room” in May of 2016, but on New Years Eve of 2017, they announced on their Facebook page that this show would be the last show on the east side of the state. On December 16, over 1,700 Eastern Students celebrated the culmination of years of hard work with their friends, family and EMU faculty at the Convocation Center. In President Smith’s speech and letter in the Commencement program he commented “that no one reaches this milestone [graduation] alone,” and offered thanks to those who helped the graduates get to Commencement.

Coppelia Ballet Recital and Orchestra

Eastern Michigan University’s School of Music and Dance delivered a full-length ballet recital titled 'Coppélia', accompanied by a noteworthy live orchestral ensemble on Friday Dec 8, at Pease Auditorium. It was nothing short of spectacular. All photos are credited to Melissa Moon.

On Wednesday evening, Dec 6, The Eastern Michigan Emerald Flutes from the School of Music and Dance put on a performance at the Alexander Recital Hall. It was clear that every student put their passion, time, and a great amount of effort into the recital. The Emerald Flutes are taught by Dr. Julie Stone, and a few will occasionally be taught by Dr. Penelope Fischer, who was a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony. This recital was put together and directed by Dr. Stone.

Volleyball qualifies for MAC tournament

The Eastern Michigan University’s women’s volleyball team qualified for the MAC tournament following a streak of four wins straight that started on senior weekend against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. 


EMU wrestling placed fourth in four sets

EMU wrestling placed fourth in four sets

Eastern Michigan University played host Saturday to a wrestling event at the Convocation Center for a plethora of teams from the Midwest. Opponents included Big Ten schools like Ohio State and Michigan State along with MAC opponents in Toledo, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan. These teams, along with other schools and universities, competed in 12 different weight restrictions. Of the 12, Eastern placed in the top four in four of the sets. Freshman Tanner Smith was the sole victor for the Eagles, placing first in the freshman/sophomore 149 pound weight division.
