Welcome home, Maxx Crosby.
Fresh off inking a three-year, $106.5M extension to remain with the Las Vegas Raiders earlier in the offseason, the Lapeer, Michigan native added a new role to his docket moving forward: assistant general manager of the Eastern Michigan football team.
As assistant GM, Crosby will have the opportunity to evaluate high school and transfer portal talents, assist in managing the team’s NIL and revenue sharing budget, and serve as a special assistant to Eagles EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee with alum relations, support for student-athletes, and fundraising according to NFL.com.
“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” penned the NFL superstar in a statement released to the EMU athletics website.
Crosby has been heavily involved with the Eagles’ football program recently, launching the “Maxx Match,” in which the 27-year-old will match any donations made to the team, up to $100,000, until the end of May.
The alumnus also has his imprint on the squad's edge-rushing group, with the weakside defensive end position on the depth chart being renamed from “LEO” to “MAXX” and the team’s top edge rusher now being awarded the honor of wearing Crosby’s iconic No. 92.
Crosby, also a member of Eastern Michigan’s Ring of Honor, donated $1 million to the football program last year. The school honored him by renaming the playing surface in Rynearson Stadium to “Crosby Field.” Read more about Crosby Field and EMU’s new turf here.
Formerly a fourth-round draft choice by the Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, Crosby becomes the first active professional football player to join a college team's administrative staff, according to Yahoo Sports.
“It’s always special when former players return to be part of our staff, and this is truly a full-circle moment,” said Eagles head coach Chris Creighton in a statement.
