EMU Womens Lacrosse Vs. Marquette

Eastern Michigan women’s lacrosse puts up valiant effort, falls to Oregon 13-11

Early in the third quarter, Eastern Michigan women’s lacrosse team looked like they had Oregon on the ropes.

Heading into halftime, the Eagles held a 9-5 lead over the Ducks and extended that advantage to 10-5 straight out of the break thanks to a Roya Khaleeli shot that made it to the back of the net.

However, from 11:39 remaining in the third quarter through the rest of the match, Oregon would outscore Eastern Michigan 8-1, eight of those goals being unanswered, to flex their muscles as a power four team and knock off the home team, 13-11.

Mackenzie Blackwell and Katheryn Wilson once again shined for the green and white, the junior and freshman respectively both contributing a hat trick each to contribute to the scoring.

Blackwell, who was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Scholar Athlete of the Week on back to back days earlier in the week, tallied her 11th three goal performance of the campaign in this outing - leaving her now just four goals shy of breaking her own single season record of 49 set last year.

Also adding to the statsheet for the Eagles was Emerson Henry with two goals and two assists, plus Abby Alderman, Payton Bloedow and the aforementioned Khaleeli with one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Madi Porter, the MAC Goalkeeper of the Week for this week registered a .409 save percentage with 9 saves and 13 goals allowed, while offensively Eastern Michigan as a team put up 26 shots, 18 of those being on goal, and collected 12 draw controls.

With the win, Oregon moved up to 6-8 (0-6 B1G) on the campaign, while Eastern Michigan dropped to 6-7 (2-2 MAC).

The Eagles return to action in just a couple short days - a road trip to Kent State is on the horizon, entering the final portion of the season this Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
