Last week, Eastern Michigan went into Ann Arbor and knocked off Michigan in a come from behind thriller.
Things didn't go as well for the Eagles in the rematch, with the home team falling 13-2 to the Wolverines on a chilly day at Oestrike Stadium.
The green and white held Michigan scoreless in the first inning but gave up two runs in the second and an additional two in the third, putting them in a 4-0 deficit by the time Eastern was up to bat in the bottom of the inning.
Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) did his part to help the Eagles get back into the game with a solo home run to left field, his second of the year. While this scored 4-1, it was also the only offense Eastern Michigan could generate until the fifth inning.
An additional solo deep shot from Harrison Travis (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Soddy Daisy/Carson-Newman), his sixth home run of the campaign, was the only other run scored from the Eagles on the afternoon, a far cry from the nine runs the squad put on the scoreboard just a week ago.
Michigan really began to pull away from the home team in the fifth inning; adding five runs to their tally during the top of the frame.
One run in the sixth and another three runs in the seventh were enough for the Wolverines to wrap up the action early, taking victory by a margin of 11.
On the bright side for the Eagles, freshman Ethan LaPointe (Windsor, Ontario/Holy Name) shined on the mound - pitching just over two innings, allowing zero earned runs, and striking out four batters providing relief from the bullpen.
With the non conference win, Michigan improved their record on the campaign to 16-12 (7-5 B1G), while Eastern Michigan fell to 13-12 (8-4 MAC).
Next time out, the Eagles will face another big test—a road trip to South Bend, Indiana, to take on blue-blood Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 2, at 5 p.m.
