Swoop's Pantry: Support for students and staff video

Since September 2015, Swoop’s Pantry has been open and dedicated to providing EMU’s community with assistance and resources for no-cost food, clothes, and other items, thereby positively impacting students’ well-being and college success.

The Pantry, located at 104 Pierce Hall, welcomes all students, faculty, and staff to ensure that everyone can fight food insecurity. According to the Swoop’s Food Pantry website, the pantry caters to a variety of needs, including vegan and vegetarian options, allergies, religion, ethnic groups, and healthy lifestyles.

As the service’s discovery video states, students will need to bring their IDs in order to gain entrance into the pantry. From there, an intake form will be completed to gather information about the student's needs, as well as other relevant details required for grants and university reports. Following your visit, shoppers will receive email updates concerning Swoop's Pantry.

Throughout the pantry, students can find an array of meals, snacks, drinks, toiletries, clothing, products and more. In fact, Swoop’s even has baby-related items in stock, such as diapers and cribs for those doubling as a student and parent.

Here, shoppers can expect to see signs hanging and indicating item limits. As their website discloses, everything Swoop’s provides has been donated, therefore, stock constantly changes and sometimes you can’t always find what you need.

Beyond helping students in the food, item, and clothing departments, Swoop also hires work-study students looking for a way to earn additional finances.

Those interested in quickly taking a look or snagging something on the way out can use the 15-minute designated pick-up parking spaces on College Place to shop or pick up orders in addition to the Swoop’s Pantry parking spaces that require no parking permit.

To learn more about the work-study program or Swoop’s Pantry in general, go to their website, email swoops_pantry@emich.edu or call 734-487-4173. To keep up with their socials, go to @swoopspantry.

Watch the video above to meet Swoop Pantry graduate assistants Colton Ray and Melissa Pickett. Together they inform watchers on the pantry's mission, offerings and donation details with a sneak peek into Swoop's Pantry itself.
