Registration Blitz 3

Students tackle fall schedules at Registration Blitz

Hundreds of students visited the REC/IM building Tuesday, March 25, as the University Advising Career and Development Center hosted its annual Registration Blitz.

Students ventured throughout the recreation building's gymnasium, where advisors, faculty and student organizations sat behind tables and offered their advice for planning fall classes and increasing campus involvement.

Alicia Apperson, the university's assistant director of advising, said the event is held each year to make the students' search for courses easier.

“We want to make sure students don’t panic when registering," Apperson said. "It can be overwhelming, that’s why we have all these people here to show you we can help you."

Since 2010, this event has served as an opportunity for students to create their own plan to get through their college career, Apperson said. Originally, it was just advising, but eventually more departments joined the event, including Financial Aid and Records and Registration.

“Although the main priority is advising, this is a good opportunity for students to get to know different programs and organizations,” academic advisor Nicole Binkowski said.

When students arrived, they were welcomed into the gymnasium through a sign-in table and received a map of the event. The first stop was the faculty area where different departments provided information about their programs. Once students met with faculty, they could visit student services and student organization booths.

The advising section was last. Students could sign in for a 10- to 15-minute meetings with an advisor, to discuss course selection and get answers to questions they might have related to advising.

“It’s been quick and easy," freshman Sage Truscott-Jones said. "The advisors are so sweet, and you can interact with so many people that are related to campus."

Truscott-Jones is studying psychology and figuring out how to balance classes while ensuring she enjoys them.

“I like to do my academics, and I also like to do something that’s fun. The advisor and I were talking about painting and sculpting classes that I might be interested in,” Truscott-Jones said.

Advisors want to speak with students to help them pick classes and create plans. For students who want their ideal schedule, advisors encourage early registration.

“You know yourself better than anyone else does, so if you know that later classes work better for you then register for those classes. You have to go with what you know,” Apperson said.

Registration for Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 officially opened March 17. For more information on registration times, dates and deadlines visit the Records and Registration website.
