Sisi Eleko scored 14 to surpass 1,000 career points, but the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team fell to Ball State University, 101-69, on Jan. 8 at Worthen Arena.
The Eagles, now 1-12 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference, also saw four players score double figures, including a career night from Elena Cabello, who tallied 12 points.
Cabello started strong, scoring the team’s first nine points on perfect shooting, including two three-pointers. Eastern Michigan matched Ball State with 21 points in the second quarter, hitting five three-pointers, their second-highest total in a half this season. The Cardinals pulled away in the third quarter with a 20-0 run, but the Eagles fought back with an 11-8 rally to close the frame. Eleko scored seven points in the fourth quarter to reach her career milestone, while Mackenzie Amalia tied her season-high with 18 points.
Eleko extended her streak to 12 consecutive games, scoring double figures, totaling 1,004 career points, including 261 in her first 12 games for EMU. Cabello recorded a career-high 12 points, breaking her previous best in just over five minutes of play. Amalia matched her season-best with 18 points, while Olivia Westphal added 12 points, marking her 10th game this season with multiple three-pointers.
The Eagles extended their streak to 116 consecutive games with at least one made three-pointer, finishing 9-of-30 from beyond the arc. With the loss, Eastern Michigan fell to 19-23 when playing at Ball State and now trails the series 46-45.
Eastern Michigan returns home on Saturday, Jan. 11, to host the University of Akron in a doubleheader. The women’s game will tip off at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and broadcast on WEMU 89.1 FM.
