Eastern Michigan gymnastics opens 2025 season with victory over Bowling Green

The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team opened its 2025 season with a strong performance, defeating Bowling Green State University 194.925-193.100 on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The Eagles recorded nine personal-best scores across all four events, showcasing depth and skill in their lineup.

Senior Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minnesota/Park Center) led the team with an all-around score of 39.075, earning first place overall. Boris excelled on the floor with a meet-high score of 9.875 and tied for first on bars with a 9.825. She also delivered solid performances on beam with a 9.725, tying for fourth, and on vault with a 9.650.

Sophomore Genae Daniel (Indianapolis, Indiana/Pike) earned first place in the vault with a personal-best score of 9.825, and senior Alana Fisher (Athens, Alabama/Alabama Connections Academy) secured second with a 9.800. Sophomore Abby Brushwood (State College, Pennsylvania/State College Area) and senior Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Illinois/Providence Catholic) tied for fourth with scores of 9.750. The Eagles continued their dominance on bars, where Boris and freshman Analiah Solorio (Littleton, Colorado/Chatfield Senior) tied for first with scores of 9.825. Senior Ella Chemotti (Canton, Michigan/Canton) and Solorio, competing in her first collegiate meet, tied for third with scores of 9.800.

On beam, Solorio and junior Kyrie Lowe tied for second with scores of 9.750. Boris and sophomore Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) posted 9.725, tying for fourth. The floor exercise saw another standout performance from Boris, whose score of 9.875 was the highest of the meet. Junior Priya Karle (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) achieved a personal-best 9.775, tying for second place.

Eastern Michigan will return to the George Gervin GameAbove Center on Friday, Jan. 17, for a four-team meet featuring Winona State, Ball State, and Northern Illinois. The competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
