The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team traveled to East Lansing to face Michigan State University, falling to the Spartans 95-49. This marked the first matchup between the Eagles and Spartans since Nov. 5, 2019, which also ended in a Michigan State victory.
Michigan State took control early, establishing a 29-14 lead by the end of the first quarter and maintaining dominance. They outscored EMU by at least six points every quarter.
Junior transfer Sisi Eleko, from Montreal, Quebec, led the Eagles with a standout performance, earning a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Eleko went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and made eight field goals. Eleko is averaging 23.3 points per game through three games this season, a notable improvement from her 15-point average in 31 games last season with Canisius.
Olivia Westphal of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was the only other Eagle to score in double digits, contributing 12 points, including four three-pointers. Westphal entered the game after scoring 20 and nine points in Eastern’s first two contests.
The Eagles struggled from beyond the arc, making six three-pointers on 21 attempts, a 28.5% success rate that slightly edged out Michigan State’s 25%.
EMU now stands at 0-3 for the season, with previous losses to Texas State and Alabama A&M.
Looking Ahead, the Eagles will have a 10-day break before returning to the court to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. Fans can catch the game on ESPN+.
