"Hot Frosty" is trending on Netflix. This film was recently released on Nov. 13. It features the "90210" actor Dustin Milligan as Jack and the "Mean Girls" actress Lacy Chabert as Kathy. The wholesome moments between these characters are beautifully done. This holiday film is full of humorous moments and romance.
This film follows a widow named Kathy who owns a diner. One night after closing, she visits this clothing store and receives a magical scarf as a gift. Walking through her small town, she sees this snowman and puts the scarf on him. This scarf brings the snowman to life.
Highs
A high in this film is the magical scene depicting the snowman coming to life. This was impressive, considering the transition of snowman to human special effects. Jack came alive and streaked through the streets. This scene was funny, considering that he ran into neighbors from the small town. The presence of the small town is a wholesome aspect of the movie due to how cozy it feels. Small-town Christmas films are more intimate and meaningful.
Another high point is how close all the families in the town are; they support each other no matter what. Kathy has a small diner in the town where everyone comes, and the community there is so wholesome. The bond that Kathy has with her workers is full of laughs. She is close with the cook, who ensures she eats since her husband passed away.
Jack's demeanor is a highlight because he is so happy and full of life. He gives Kathy the light she needs after the darkness she has experienced. Their connection is strong as he begins to make kind gestures for her. Through his actions, he shows how much he cares for her.
The plot of this film is unique, considering it is about a snowman coming alive during the Christmas season. He turns human and falls in love with a human. The story is wholesome and full of the holiday spirit. This keeps the story interesting because Kathy slowly falls in love with the snowman too, which surprises her.
Lows
There are minimal lows, considering how simple the plot was. The main low was the police officer because he was full of himself. He is supposed to come off as funny, but he is more irritating than anything. He has this hostile demeanor and tries to ruin Christmas because someone is streaking through the town. He is on this manhunt; that is ridiculous, considering how minor the crime is.
Another low point is that the storyline was simple, so it could have been more appealing for a Christmas movie. Other aspects could have been added to make it more intriguing. The film begins slowly and lacks background knowledge of Kathy and what she went through.
Verdict
"Hot Frosty" is worth watching if one is looking for a cute, wholesome Christmas film during the holidays. It is full of wholesome moments.
Rating: 6.5 out of 10.
