The EMU Career Closet opened its doors in McKenny Hall in September 2022. The establishment works closely with the University of Advising and Career Development (UACDC) to provide students and alumni professional clothing and accessories.
Each semester, shoppers can get up to four free items when filling out the Google Form presented at the check-out desk. After receiving the initial discount, students will then receive another coupon for two additional free items which also expires at the end of the semester. That is six more pieces of clothing students can hang up in their closet that they didn't already own. Of course as a college student, it being free is the best part.
Since the attire is career-related for endeavors such as interviews, internships, conferences, or other job activities - items such as suits, pants, dresses, skirts, jackets, blouses and button-ups can be found. As well as ties, socks, wallets, purses, socks, shoes, belts and jewelry too.
The main shop for the EMU Career Closet is located at 251 McKenny Hall, however they have another space in the back where they keep extra clothing and a spare dressing room. In total, there are two gender-inclusive areas to try-on potential purchases, giving shoppers privacy.
Lastly, the Career Closet’s items are provided by donations made from community members or from monetary funding. Those interested in continuing this initiative can donate online here.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed. For more information or questions, go to https://www.emich.edu/uacdc/ca... or email career_services@emich.edu.
