Get ready for an exciting day of football on Saturday, Oct. 12, as the Eastern Michigan University Eagles take on the defending Mid-American Conference champions, Miami University, at Rynearson Stadium.
The game kicks off at 2 p.m., and with Michigan and Michigan State on bye weeks, this matchup is one of the most significant football events in the state. Fans who can't attend in person can still catch all the action live on ESPN+ or tune in to WEMU (89.1 FM).
This highly anticipated MAC showdown has both teams looking to make a strong statement. The Eagles have had a fantastic start to the season, winning four of their first five games, and they're hoping to go 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2005. A win against Miami would also give Eastern Michigan its best six-game start since 1989 and further strengthen their push for the MAC title. But the RedHawks present a tough challenge, especially with their standout red-zone defense.
Head Coach Chris Creighton, reflected on the preparation during the bye week.
"Rest, rehab, and then staying in rhythm is really what we needed to do… this last week, that’s what we really attacked those three things," Creighton said. "I think it was a really, really good week for our guys."
Halftime entertainment: The Temptations and EMU Marching Band unite
The excitement won’t be limited to just the game. At halftime, fans are in for a special treat as legendary Motown group The Temptations perform alongside EMU’s Pride of the Peninsula Marching Band. Leading this memorable performance is Detroit native and EMU alum Jawan M. Jackson, who joined The Temptations in 2022. With classics like "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," this collaboration of Motown and EMU pride is set to be an unforgettable show.
Creighton also encouraged fans to attend the game.
"Our first two games have been great, and we appreciate Eagle Nation coming and being a part of it; it makes a difference, and then we both noticed that Michigan and Michigan State on byes and the Lions out of town, so anybody who’s looking to get their football fix, come to the Factory," Creighton said. "The Temptations are performing at halftime, as they’ve so famously sung, ‘I Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.’ Hope to see you at the Factory."

Eagles aim for a strong season
Eastern Michigan enters this game with much momentum, fresh off a dominant 52-33 victory over Kent State in their MAC opener. The Eagles are determined to defend their home turf, having won eight of their last nine games at Rynearson Stadium. Creighton and his team are focused on building on that success and starting 2-0 in the conference for the first time in nearly 20 years. A win over Miami would push EMU closer to a potential MAC championship and give them their best start to a season in 35 years.
Rivalry and history
Though Miami leads the all-time series 19-6, the Eagles have had the upper hand recently, winning the last two matchups, including a tight 13-12 victory in 2021. This year’s game is expected to be as competitive, with both teams eager to prove themselves in the MAC.
Rynearson Stadium will buzz, making this a can’t-miss event for both football and Motown fans. Be sure to join in and cheer on the Eagles while enjoying a fantastic halftime performance by The Temptations and a fun-filled Beerfest!
