The theaters were filled even days after the movie "Twisters" came out. This movie featured Glen Powell as Tyler Owens and Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Carter; their chemistry was intriguing. The film was filled with the most terrifying tornadoes and was very realistic.
Synopsis
The main character Kate was traumatized by an encounter with a tornado that involved her best friends. Years later, after the incident, her old friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) pulls her back into the open plains of tornadoes. She joins him to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. This project makes her cross paths with Tyler, who is a charming but reckless social media star. He posts his adventures of storm-chasing tornadoes on YouTube. As the storm season intensifies, Kate and Tyler team up together to stop the biggest tornado and save everyone in central Oklahoma.
Highs
The CGI tornadoes in this movie were a highlight; they were horrifying and incredibly realistic. It was beautifully done and conveyed the actual tragedies that lie behind Oklahoma's tornadoes. This kept the audience engaged and elevated the film to a very interesting level. The performance of Jones as Kate Carter is also noteworthy because, despite being British, her Oklahoman accent was spot-on. Her portrayal of Kate at the start, when she was witnessing a tragic tornado incident, was incredibly moving. She depicted the post-incident PTSD symptoms of her character in her subsequent tornado encounters.
Powell's portrayal of Tyler, who is charming yet smart, is another highlight. His persona gave these tragic tornado-related situations a humorous touch. His modern cowboy-inspired attire was another standout feature. He did a great job of capturing the character's adrenaline, exaggeration, and tornado knowledge. Tyler and Kate's relationship is another highlight; they get each other's love of tornado chasing and their mutual understanding of tornado science.
The fact that most scenes took place in the middle of a field, where most tornadoes occur, was another highlight of the movie. These fields captured the entierty of the tornado, and the action scenes were incredible. Another high was how advanced Tyler's truck was at keeping on the ground during a tornado. Aside from the amazing explosions that flew out inside the tornado, the team with Tyler was hilarious.
Lows
This movie had very few negative points because it was so engaging. The conclusion was the low point since it fulfilled what fans had anticipated. If the director had kept the anticipated primary sequence in place, it might have been a more satisfying conclusion. One of the characters in Javi's crew, Scott (David Corenswet) is another low. He detracted from the ambiance of the film the entire time by having a bad attitude about Kate. Javi's actions with Kate were inspired by his anger and selfishness.
Verdict
The intensity of the tornadoes made for a suspenseful and hilarious movie. If one loves Glen Powell and storm-chasing tornadoes, it is worth the watch.
