Season eight of Netflix's popular Spanish series "Elite" is the last one to air. The first episode of this final season draws the audience in with its depiction of murder and toxic groups. Some primary cast members from prior seasons are back for season eight, including André Lamoglia as Iván Cruz, Valentina Zenere as Isadora, and Omar Ayuso as Omar.
Synopsis
The entire season revolves around one student's death. Incidents occur to set up for the murder of that student. The "Alumni" club, headed by Emilia Krawietz (Ane Rot) and her brother Héctor Krawietz (Nuno Gallego), is a recent addition to Las Encinas. This pair, who are known for their poisonous and snobbish ways, forces the Las Encinas classmates to compete for a spot on the alumni board. For certain characters, like Joel (Fernando Líndez) and Chloe (Mirela Balić), this produces a sense of urgency to participate.
Highs
Iván and Isadora's friendship is one of this season's high points. Even when Isadora makes terrible mistakes and can push people away, their bond remains unbreakable. Iván will never give up on her and will keep watching out for her. Another positive is watching Isadora's character develop; she has several challenges that tempt her to revert to her previous drug-using behaviors. However, after being given another chance to get what she desires, she develops into a fearless young woman who is prepared to face any challenge.
Omar's character development is another highlight; In the previous season, he was quite flimsy. However, during this season, he becomes more self-assured and resilient. In the end, overcoming his depression has helped him become a better person. In addition, his sister Nadia (Mina El Hammani), an original character from season one, is returning for the remainder of the season. Given that she left for a study abroad program in the United States during season four, this came as a great surprise to the fans.
Another highlight of this season is the strong drama that revolves around several murders and blackmail. The supporters are captivated and want to see the season through. Fans are surprised by the new romances that develop this season as well. Another highlight is the character Sara (Carmen Arrufat), who was mistreated by her ex-boyfriend Raul in the previous season. Her character has evolved from being insecure and depressed to being more brave and happy this season.
The new club Alumni's structure is one last high point for this season. Given Isadora's club and this season's key location, the architecture is stunning and cutting-edge. Her club, which is bursting with vibrant lights and music, served as another important location. The audience takes notice of this because of how captivating it is.
Lows
Since this is the final season, there aren't many low points. The season's biggest low point is the toxicity Joel's character introduces. This season, he seems to go from guy to guy, which is disappointing. He grows conceited and loses concern for other people's sentiments. This breaks his friendships and sends other people into a spiral. He is a bad guy who always worries about money and makes terrible judgments that have an impact on other people.
Emilia is another toxic character, which is a low point. Her character does not improve and instead adds this bad energy to the season. It's unsettling that she has been fixated on her brother since the beginning. Unlike the toxic characters from earlier seasons, she lacks any endearing traits and instead is obstinate and driven by vengeance.
The bond between Chloe and her mother is yet another low point. Despite the consequences, Chloe listens to her mother's control. This demonstrates how weak and overly obedient her nature is toward her mother. She defends her mother's actions even when they are wrong, betraying her friends in the process.
Verdict
For those who have watched "Elite" from the start, this final season is worth watching. One final season of murder mystery and toxicity. This show is for a mature audience only.
Rating: 8 out of 10.
