20 EMU gymnasts earn Scholastic All-Americans

Some school sports teams don’t even have 20 student athletes on their roster, while earning All-American honors for anything else is also very hard to do.

The Eastern Michigan University Gymnastics team had 20 athletes earn Scholastic All-American honors; you heard that right, twenty. The Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced this on August 14th.

The Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association Scholastic All-American award is an award that is given to any student who has a GPA of 3.5 or higher and it essentially means that an individual is doing more than just succeeding in the classroom.

84 programs were featured on this list, and Eastern Michigan ranks in 14th place. The program had a 3.73 grade point average in total to accumulate their year in the classroom. Moreover, 86% of their roster received this feat, a tally that ranks 9th in the nation.

In addition to Eastern Michigan’s average of a 3.73 GPA, 63 programs earned an average GPA at a 3.5 or higher. These statistics, having only been recorded since 2008, saw 1,174 student athletes overall at least record this high of GPA, the highest in the 17 years this has existed.

Of all these athletes who were this high, the average was 3.61, slightly lower than the average of the gymnasts who were the Green and White.

Eastern Michigan had seven athletes average a 4.0 GPA, including Molly Parris (Hudson, Ohio), Brooke Maycroft (Coopersville, Mich.), Anna Grace McCullough (Birmingham, Ala.) Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich.), Priya Karle (Canton, Mass.), Raisa Boris (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Taylor Wetherbee (Saline, Mich.). They have majors in Exercise Science, Administration, Psychology, Elementary Education and Biology, respectively.

Of the MAC Schools, only one other had more than 80% of their athletes selected. That was Central Michigan, who had 84.21% of their athletes selected.

The schedule for the 2025 season has yet to be finalized, but the Eagles see a big amount of turnover including four of the students with a 4.0 GPA leaving.
