Brittni Mason

Eagle alumn Brittni Mason to be a part of US Paralympics team in 2024

Another Eastern Michigan alumni is making her mark on the national stage. Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio) will appear in her second consecutive Paralympics in 2024. She will become the third Eastern Michigan Track and Field Alumni member to participate in the Olympics/Paralympics in Paris.

The Cleveland area native competed for five years at Eastern Michigan with her final year coming in 2021 after being granted an extra year due to COVID-19. Mason is the first two-time Paralympian in the history of the program.

Before competing at Eastern Michigan, Mason attended and ran at West Geauga High School and was the district record holder in the 100 and 200m races.

In the 2020 Paralympics, which occurred in 2021 due to COVID-19, Mason competed in three events, including the 100 and 200-meter sprints and the mixed 4x100 relays. She earned the silver medal in the individual races and the gold in the 4x100.

In five seasons in Ypsilanti, Mason achieved plenty of success. She earned a total of four All-MAC team selections. The selections were a second-team once and a first-team an astounding three times. She was the anchor of a team that had a 44.65-second effort in the 2019 NCAA East Regional Championships in the 4x100 and also broke an outdoor record in the same season with a clocked team time of 44.05 in the same event.

In addition to the three events she competed in for the last Paralympics, Mason also raced the 60m sprints. Her best in this respective event was 7.49 in the indoor season 2018-19.

In addition to being an athlete during her time on the east side of Washtenaw County, Mason also achieved success in the classroom and academically. She received academic All-Mid-American Conference honors five years in a row and was a scholar-athlete in 2018.
