For the 20th consecutive academic year, the Eastern Michigan University Volleyball Team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, as announced on Wednesday, July 17.
Eastern volleyball continued its tradition of academic excellence, maintaining a 20-year streak that stands as the third-longest in NCAA Division I. It is one of only 14 NCAA Division I programs to earn the award for at least 15 academic years.
This year, 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs achieved the award by maintaining a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale).
AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon highlighted the significance of this accomplishment, noting that the success on the court during the 2023-24 season has extended to the classroom with more programs than ever earning the Team Academic Award. He emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the dedication of coaches to helping their players excel academically and athletically.
In its first year of sponsoring the prestigious award, INTENT is a digital platform connecting student-athletes and military special ops veterans to a network of candidate-seeking employers, guiding them toward professional and personal success after sports and service.
Up next, the Eagles are set to hit the court for the first time in the 2024 season against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by Indiana University-Indianapolis on August 31 at 10 a.m.
