Check out these events happening around Eastern Michigan University's campus this week.
Zumba with Kadesha & Teri - June 17
Join instructors Kadesha and Teri for a session of Zumba in the dance studio of Riverside Arts Center. This class occurs every week on Monday from 6-6:55 p.m. with the first class attended being free of charge. After the first class, each class costs $10 with a student ID or $15 without. There are also pass options available, which allow for the payment of multiple classes at once.
Depot Town Comedy Open Mic - June 19
Head to 734 Brewing Company for its weekly comedy open mic night. The free event will run from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
Ypsilanti's Juneteenth Celebration - June 21-23
Visit Depot Town for the annual Ypsilanti Juneteenth Celebration. This year, the Celebration will span three days, with each day offering a variety of events and activities. All events will take place in the South Huron Parking Lot located behind Puffer Reds, or at 107 Ferris St. in Ypsilanti.
The Celebration will begin on June 21 with an event hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Ann Arbor. The event, titled "Power in Our Blackness," will aim to bring together community members while sharing information about fraternities and sororities. It will include emcees such as Cherisa Allen and Taryn Willis, and the event will also feature food trucks, a raffle, and a DJ. It will run from 6-9 p.m.
On June 22, the day of events will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be hustle lessons at 11 a.m. with Dance With Elegance, and the Black Joy Youth Takeover will take place from 12:30-2 p.m. on the main stage. There will also be vendors, food, and activities for attendees to partake in throughout the day, with a variety of musical performances for community members to watch.
The last day of the Celebration will begin at 1 p.m. on June 23 with the Celebration's annual Church service. The service will feature Pastor Jason Robinson and Pastor Daniel Jackson. At 2:30 p.m. a Gospel & Giggles Comedy Show will begin, which will be emceed by Big Dooley and headlined by comedian CoCo. A Gospel Explosion concert will follow, beginning at 4 p.m. The concert will feature Minister David Whitfield and a guest performance by Reverend Jeffrey LaValley.

Riverside Swings - June 21
Swing dance with community members in the dance studio of Riverside Arts Center. Starting at 7 p.m., a free one-hour Charleston lesson will be provided. A free beginner 6-count swing lesson will follow, running from 8-9 p.m. After the two free lessons, a session of blues will occur. Participation following the lessons costs $4 for students and $5 for non-students.
REO Club of America: 50th Annual Car Show and Meet - June 22
Head to Riverside Park for REO Club of America's annual car show and meet. There will be cars and trucks from the REO Motor Car Company and Diamond REO on display for community members to view. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing" - June 22
Watch a Spinning Dot Theatre Company Production of the play "This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing" at Riverside Arts Center. There will be two performances on June 22, with the first performance beginning at 11 a.m. The second performance will start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets cost $5 each for youth and $10 each for adults, and they can be purchased online.
Washtenaw Refugee Welcome: Summer Spectacular Celebration - June 22
Join the volunteer organization Washtenaw Refugee Welcome at Parkridge Park for a celebration of World Refugee Day. The free event will include pizza, popsicles, refreshments, and games, and all members of the community are welcome. The event will run from 3-5 p.m. and the link to register can be found on the organization's website.
Wings & Wheels - June 22
Visit the Yankee Air Museum for the Wings & Wheels event, which will feature a variety of historic aircraft and vehicles on Willow Run's airport ramp. The event will run from 2-6 p.m. and there are two ticket options available for purchase. General admission tickets cost $30 each if bought in advance, or $40 each if bought on the day of the event. There are also Mustang Club tickets available which allow access to a shaded tent with food and beverages. These tickets cost $95 each. There is free admission for those fifteen years old and under, and the link to purchase tickets can be found on the Michigan Flight Museum website.
