"Inside Out 2" hit theaters on June 14th and the movie continued to sell out for the next week. The long-awaited sequel to the original "Inside Out" film that was released in 2015 did not disappoint.
Synopsis
In this follow-up, Riley is a teenager who just turned 13 and is going through puberty. It demonstrates the range of feelings she experiences as a teenager. Though Joy is the most energetic feeling, other emotions are depicted in the movie. As she develops and her body changes, more emotions become apparent. This film is about her summer before going to high school, and the struggles she will face as her life changes.
Highs
The comedy between Joy and Anxiety's characters is the movie's high point. Anxiety, the new character, is a contemporary figure. Her character has done a great job portraying overthinking. Maya Hawke is the voice actor for Anxiety. Her portrayal of anxiety in this movie, her first animation, is excellent. This character's tendency to spiral out of control demonstrates how anxiety may take over a person's mind.
Joy never loses control, but this movie sends her feelings into overdrive as well. The film's plot revolves around Joy and Anxiety's fight over Riley's future. This demonstrates how much Joy loves Riley and would stop at nothing to ensure that she transforms for the better. The new emotions in the movie are humorous, particularly Ennui (or boredom), which is essentially a state of mind. Her sarcasm is humorous and lightens the mood of the film.
The way Sadness, a character from the first movie, grows further in this movie is another highlight. She truly grows bold and lends a hand during the entire movie. Her persona gains power as she unites with Embarrassment, a brand-new emotion. His shyness and cute animation make this new emotion one of the funnier ones. Additionally, the animations in this movie and the appearance of the new characters were well-developed. It created a sense of childhood and perfectly captured their characteristics.
Lows
Riley's humiliation as a result of Anxiety controlling her emotions was one of the movie's low points. In this movie, Anxiety played the villain, and it was quite annoying to watch, because of her desire for total control. The film had very few low points, but Riley's descent into anxiety was terrible. Of course, this was essential to the plot and storyline, but it merely made the movie more tedious.
Another low was that other new emotions with Anxiety just went along with everything she did. This showed that the other emotions didn’t have a mind of their own. While Embarrassment was merely along for the journey, the other two emotions that largely followed instructions were Envy and Ennui. Their personalities were diminished by the character Anxiety.
Verdict
This family-friendly film depicts the range of emotions that a teen encounters is filled with humorous and carefree moments.
