Meet EMU Student Government's election winners

After the student government election concluded at the end of March, it was announced that Hamzah Dajani and Jack Booth had been elected as president and vice president of the Eastern Michigan University student body, with Dajani making history as the university’s first international student to win the position.

Dajani, a rising senior and Finance and Accounting major from Amman, Jordan, was sworn in as student body president on April 29, though he’s no stranger to the world of student government. He first joined as a freshman, serving two years as a senator, where he was then appointed as the Business and Finance Director in the 2023-24 school year, managing the student government budget and leading the Business and Finance Committee.

Booth, a rising junior, was studying abroad in the Sahara Desert when he learned that he was elected into the position of Vice President of the EMU student body. A management major with a minor in Spanish, this is Booth’s third year of student government, having served as a senator for the past two years.

A member of the Honors College, Presidential Scholars Association, the admissions office, and the EMU Foundation, Booth is using his newest position for a few different goals. He hopes to improve student connection to campus resources, strengthen the purchasing power of a meal swipe, and work with student organizations to promote campus community.

Participating in organizations such as the Eagle Investment Fund, Financial Management Fund, and the Student Alumni Association, Dajani is deeply interested in how we engage with alumni. He has begun to spearhead efforts to enhance student internship and job opportunities, boost alumni engagement and connections, and develop a stronger student athletics culture.

“Alumni are an integral element in the equation that is our university’s success, establishing robust pipelines with them will benefit our current and future students for years to come in more ways than we can fully imagine,” Dajani said. “Our students deserve access to top firms in Michigan and across the nation, and we are working diligently to improve these opportunities.”

With their experience as part of student government and efforts to improve the quality of campus and student life and opportunities, Dajani and Booth are excited for the opportunity to serve as the new president and vice president of EMU’s student body.

“The part about this position that excites me the most is the platform to connect with students and faculty all over campus so that I can be the spokesperson for the change that the EMU community needs,” Booth said. “I cannot wait to continue serving and I hope to connect with everyone soon.”
